Here are the finds from an old picnic area that my mom and dad used to take my sister and I when we were little. A river to swim in, some woods and a creek. These finds were collected in the woods and along a creek trail.

These coins were just sitting on top of the dirt? Perhaps left over when a flood washed away the top soil.

An old gold/silver signet ring was found a couple of inches below the surface. JC are the initials, the same as my brotherinlaw where I stayed at during my holiday. What are the chances of that?

And one more piece of jewelery that I am not sure of? A tie clip perhaps?, pocket watch holder? Anyone have any ideas?

I believe that you are correct with the whatsit, likely a belt clip. Loving those old nickels. I only have one 47 leaf.

Have no clue, John. If it's sterling, that's good enough. I like the ring with the gold face and silver band. WTG...

The 1947 ML variety are a nice find, yet worth the least amount. The dot series is worth a few dollars though. I guess we just got to keep on searching!:detecting:

I should get a book some day. I was never in this for monetary gain, but I definitely would like to know coin values. I found one of those 1751-1951 factory in the background nickels in my change a few weeks ago. I was totally surprised and snatched it away for safe keeping. I just don't see those nickels from one decade to the next. And as for the dot coins. I don't remember seeing one since childhood.
