My season may be over

I was out briefly for the last two days and nearly froze my fingers and ears off. Temp was in the 40's but the wind was really frigid. Besides, the batteries in my Ace are down to the last notch. Man, I hate the thoght of 3 to 4 months without being able to get out.

I hear you MrGee! It's getting pretty chilly, and the sun setting at 6 pm doesn't help...hopefully be back at it by the end of April.

MrGee, you need talk to John Edmonton. He'll have you hunting all year long....lol! :detecting:

It was a wet 37 degrees here in Central NY today...the white stuff is supposed to start flying by next week here...I hope not though...

HH,

If you get snow, there's got to be places where kids toboggan and loose jewelry and coins. If little or no snow, hunt in the woods. The humus layer and below is usually dig-gable. Too cold? Dress warm. Batteries dead from the cold, put a hot pack on them.

Edmonton got us all going last winter with his posts! Unstead of sitting here theorizing about new inventions, detecting spots, scoops and whatnot! Some ground under the snow is still soft and manageable, and the snow lets you see where you swept, and where you didn't. I carry a very light weight hoe type of thing that is intended for gardening, its got a hoe blade on one end, and 3 tines on the other, it chops through hardpack to the targets well, and doubles as a walking cane. Thats the biggest problem, slipping and falling! all the time its dark out, which is good, you can sweep the sledding hills every morning before anyone is there to bother you! Bundle up and have at it, MrGee!

It will hack into fairly hard ground, acts as a walking implement to prevent falls and digs deep holes real fast in the snow or ground. Check out the sponsors of Findmall, as most carry these.

3 to 4 months? Is that all? We had snow on the ground from mid-november to the first weekend of May last winter. I'd take 4 months any day ..

It's obvious that a lot of you guys are hardier than I am ( english translation: hardier= goofy), Acturally, I was premature because today was really nice and I went to a neighboring town and hit a park that ha always been good to me. Started out with 7 quarters and kept going from there. Saturday is supposed to be pretty decent too, so I panicked a little too soon.

[size=large]Well gopher that was a short week. only one day according to the weather man. you guys are gunna get dumped on tonite and tomorrow.

McDave, I had the same crazy long winter last year too. And even once it's nice out and the snow is gone, it takes a few weeks for the ground to thaw. The frostline here is 4 feet deep, so it takes a while to be able to dig. Hopefully this will be a short winter...doubt it though. I love the prairie, but if we had SOME trees it would help things stay a little milder! Anyway Sunday is supposed to be +6 here, so I might be able to get out one last time.
