LOL..no not pulse induction... POISON FREAKIN' IVY! I was out detecting a farmhouse last weekend that was grown over by the woods. I was wading through the PI but being careful (yeah, right). Normally I don't have any reaction to poison ivy(not necessarily for poison anything else) but early week I had a couple spots on me. Well, no big deal, I've lived through poison oak/sumac/ivy many times before. Suddenly on Thursday though it seemed as if my spots had spread like wildfire! Then I remembered... Tuesday night I was out in the garage messing around with the detector to set up a good belt for hip mounting.. Messed with the coil a bit..the wire.. So in a Homer Simpson moment I had to say DOH!

Just thought I'd share the misery and hopefully help somebody else!

Sorry to hear of your predictament.
I've been lucky so far with out that problem:blink:

Just another way to get posion ivy. Luckily for me, I don't get posion ivy.

Ouch! Below is a treatment should you or your coil ever come in contact with poison ivy:

-If you are exposed, according to the FDA, you should quickly (within 10 minutes):
first, cleanse exposed areas with rubbing alcohol.

-next, wash the exposed areas with water only (no soap yet, since soap can move the urushiol, which is the oil from the poison ivy that triggers the rash, around your body and actually make the reaction worse).

-now, take a shower with soap and warm water. (yes...put a bag on the Scorpion Stinger)

l-astly, put gloves on and wipe everything you had with you, including shoes, tools, and your clothes, with rubbing alcohol and water.
Unfortunately, if you wait more than 10 minutes, the urushiol will likely

Great point! Hopefully I won't need to send it in...so far it doesn't appear to be allergic to anything except empty ground!! LOL... I'll be sure to keep the thing squeaky clean though from now on! I wouldn't wish this mess on anybody.. I'm gonna head back out there Thursday if we don't get any more rain between now and then. The 1st house on the property isn't in the woods but the farmer plows to within feet of it..and it's plenty muddy out there after our rain last Thursday!

Dang that's as bad as washing down with tomato juice and or kerosene after a skunk pees on you. Been there and dne that.

Me neither. I can wallow in the stuff. Now my dad could get within fifty feet of the stuff and get a terrible dose of it.

I'm scratching just thinking about that stuff!!!!!
Got it so bad once I had to take shots.

A yes good ole poison ivy, oak, sumac...they all have there prime times.

In the spring when the plants are just coming out is when they are the most...umm potent? Yes the sap is starting to flow to all parts of the vine. The leaves are fragile as well as all parts of the plant. The slightes touch and you have the oil on you and anything the plant comes in contact with. Later in the year they are not so bad. You can still get PI from a dormant plant too! Learn the plant and just try to stay away from it. If your machine was brushing agains the plant the oil is on your machine and all your clothes, your bags anything the plant comes into contact with, carries the toxic oils, even "Fido" can carry it. What ever you do stay away from burning PI as well that is the worse. Lots of bad things have happened to people inhaling burning PI!

Sorry to hear of your ordeal

Det well soon and...don't scratch!

Don

I hate the stuff as well, I get it bad, I always use the cream when I come out of the woods, even if I dont see it! Hydracorotizone? Highest percentage over the counter that I can get. This cream always works good, Please note I aint no Doctor, so use at your own Risk lol

I used 3% hydrocortisone cream on it and it works well!! I'll be focusing on preventative measures next time of course! I really need to get back out to that old homesite....
