My Sand Scoop

I want to go and to a little detecting at the beach tomorrow. I don't own, and have not ordered a sand scoop yet. And I didn't want to wait on a commercially manufactured scoop to arrive so I built my own......for a lot cheaper than the $19.99 plus shipping.

1) I went to Tractor Supply and bought a 3 oz feed scoop.....$2.99 + tax.
2) I put masking tape on the bottom and back side of the scoop so I could layout the lines.
3) Then I used a center punch to mark each hole's center......this keeps the drill bit from drifting while drilling.
4) Then I attempted to drill the first hole with a 1/2" drill bit........not good!! So I then started with smaller drill sizes and worked my way up to 1/2" dia holes.....make sure the drill bits are sharp!!
5) Next you will need to deburr the holes, inside and out.
6) If you like, you can use an extended reach lighter and burn the smallest burrs and shavings off.

So, for about $3.25 and a little time I have my scoop and I will head to the beach tomorrow.

FYI: Taking another look at the scoop before posting this thread, I have decided to add holes to the sides to make it easier and quicker to remove the sand.
