My Racer 2 will be here tomorrow.

I got a good deal from a forum member on an R2 with 3 coils, the 5", stock coil and the Makro 5x10. I went ahead and ordered the 7" concentric and a couple of lower rods. I'm looking forward to giving this machine a workout in some iron infested places where I've been using the CTX. I had a Fors Core a couple of years ago and fell in love with it the first time out, I should have kept it, but, I sold it and went back to the Minelabs. I've been pulling some keepers outta the trash and iron, but, I know I'm leaving stuff behind, so I took the plunge after debating on the R2 or the Deus.

Any hints, tips or tricks I need to know? Thanks.

This is where your Racer 2 will shine. Put that 5" coil on it and go tackle the iron infested places.

As far as settings it's a personal preference thing. On my Racer 2 when fighting the iron infested sites my settings are:

Mode Three Tone
Gain 85
ID Filter 3
Notch NA.
Iron Audio 2 (just enough to barely hear the iron, if it starts to sound like machine gun fire, time to go real slow and methodical)
Tone Break 10 & 65 ( lower the high tone down to 65. By doing that IH Pennys will fall in the high tone)

Audio Tone. You can play with this one and figure out what settings best suit you. I have mine on 10-30-70
Backlight You can adjust rather to have it flash on everytime you hit a target and at what intensity or you can choose to shut it off.

Anyhow, hope this helps a little, maybe use it as a starting point and adjust it to your likings. This is my Saved settings and I can easily adjust and make changes from there. Sometimes I'll adjust my gain up or down or If I know I am knee deep in iron, put the Iron audio on "0" and just listen for the mid and highs. But most times it's on 1 or 2 As you get hours on the machine pay attention to the tones and less attention to VDI numbers.

I agree, you should have kept the Nokta FORS CoRe. I just returned from a 4-day trip to Utah for a club Potluck & Competition Hunt and took several detectors with me, as I always do. Most of my daily detecting was about an equal split between using my Nokta Impact w/7" Concentric and FORS CoRe working the 'OOR' DD coil. My personal preference for the Racer 2 is only using the smaller DD coils, but I don't have the 7" Concentric coil for it yet. Just a 7" on my main-use Impact and it is absolutely a joy to use for a bulk of my hunting needs! I am sure you'll enjoy it on the Racer 2.

As for settings, like Oregon Gregg mentioned, it is really a personal thing, but on my Racer 2 settings, as well as my FORS CoRe, FORS Relic and Impact, the bulk of my hunting is in dense iron debris and I use the smaller coils up to the 7" Concentric in Di3 / 3-Tone modes. The settings Gregg shows are surprisingly similar to those I have saved, except I have my 3-Tone mode saved to start out with a Sensitivity / Gain of '99.' I can always reduce it if I feel the need to should there be a stability concern.

Let us know how the detector works out Dan. I just acquired one with the 13E, 26 and 29V coils.
Have been playing around with coils and settings.
Have an idea how most things are supposed to work except the Audio tone and the iSat. There I am still clueless.
Now from what I'm reading I have to start saving for the 7" concentric.
