My Privy in the Country

I got O'dell's books and began to read about the stuff you find in privyies. Well, it has dawned on me that, in my garden I have been finding 12 inches deep or less all the things he says you'll find in the privy. Doll parts, black glass, bricks, aqua glass, decorative glass, crock parts, painted china, even Jack Daniels embossed, etc. We did find two intact bottles (a 3 in one oil) and a tall round bottle, both w/ screw-type lids. So...the old capped "well" isn't a well after all. It is round and stone lined and we measured it to 17 feet deep. About 6 feet wide. It is a privy. I couldn't figure out why there was a great spring near the house and a dug well. This is in the middle of nowhere. Looks like an expensive privy.

Since the privy is down to 17 feet, shall I assume some treasure hunters already got it and that the stuff all over the surface is stuff they just dumped out when they were digging?

Also found a man who thought the mounds in the hollow were indian mounds. Glass in the creeks.

Any idea on my privy would be appreciated!

May have been an old well that was filled in for some reason years ago , if town/city water can through or if a new well was dug the old well was some times filled in and often as not it was not given much thought as to what was put down in it to fill it up ....rocks dirt , glass cans old metal ... a filled well is safer than an open hole was the thinking of the day ..
