My other hobby lately

Hi All,
Dont ask me why, BUT I had started raising Monarch BF a few months back. What a rewarding hobby. It is a lot of work and interesting that we can become friends and attached to these bugs.
Maybe everyone else has seen these flowers on a plant called a Passion Vine, BUT to me, it is a very great looking sweet smelling plant that certain BF love. The monarch is not one that really cares for the passion vine BUT these were just released and took a rest on them for a few minutes before realizing they are free to go.
Too bad we cant capture 'smells' yet! Well, on the other hand maybe there is no hurry.

Gonna be my desktop from now on! Do you have to raise milkweed to raise those butterflys? They sure have a fasinating life cycle!! <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D">

Thanks Royal.
Click the link below, BUT please be patient as the pics are on the BIG side.

HI Royal,
I have been using a Sony CD-200 lately. IMO it is exactly what I need as it stores its images on a mini CD disk that I can pop into my PC hard drive or use the USB cable.
It also has the ability to offload the cd to a VCR tape or the TV as well making a digital slide show.
The min cd can hold 1000 pics in the min resolution mode which is 640x640. Max mode is 2.1 mpixels.
I am sure there are much better cams on the market, BUT to be able to hold as many as tis cam does is GREAT in my book.

I have found that IF I lock the cams ASA rating at 100 instead of auto I get a much less grainy pic as one gets with regular film.
As Rick mentioned also, where focus is real critical I maximize the depth of field by using a higher number f-stop.
Other than these tips, the cam is pretty much bulletproof, BUT you already probably knew this.
Lets see some more pics!

Fantastic pictures! Do you remember the water detector I bought from you awhile back? Well, I'm still using it here. Good to see you post your pictures here. Dang, doesn't anyone use a Canon here? I don't know why I couldn't see Royals pic down below. I can open all the others. Gotta be Royal's fault. HS (happy shooting).

I bet a canon is a good cam too... its just another brand as with detectors.
Gosh, its got to be coming up on two years that u have had the water machine as this is about the time I had to step out of it. Since then, my finds have dropped quite a bit.
You having any luck with it??????
Lets see some Cannon pics.

Ya didn't tell me that you were into butterflys!....In fact, I never knew people actually raised them! Man, they are beautiful and that Sony is a remarkable camera! Great photos!

Hi Doug,
Well, beleive it or not, raising butterflys is BIG BUSINESS ! They get something like $75 bucks a dozen plus shipping. They use em for all sorts of occaisons. Weddings, reunions, graduations, etc. Check this one of many sites its unreal http://www.butterflynursery.com/releases.htm
I did not get into it big time but was able to raise a few dozen from the eggs taken from the plants in the yard and follow them thru their life cycle. Its really an interesting cycle.
I will try to post another type of butterfly that was just born this morning.
IF anyone wants to attract butterflys, which is all i do now, is simply make sure you have certain type of plants and flowers in the yard. Sometimes I would carry seeds and dump em here and there in the fields while detecting.
WHATS really bad about raising BF in florida is that we have lizards that eat em rigt up, it hurts to see this and this is why I started taking em in and raising them and then releasing them when they cud fly well enough to stand a chance.
More pics later maybe,
Cya
