Okay so this is what I have observed over a month about the MXT so far. It is probably very easy to use in lower soil Ground reading but in ground with #'s 70 + it is very erattic as far as the digital readouts are concerned. I will tell you that my first detector had an I.D. on it that worked very well. If you hit a coin and the I.D. was telling you you found a coin save for nickels you had found a coin, and it was precise (however it was not for prospecting and it does not see as deep). I still enjoy using it. At least in our ground for treasure the MXT I.D. system does not work good at all. I have experimented with the gain, discrimination, all of the preset ground balance points. And issues in between. I have memorized the manual and put all of the info in it to use, and all I have been able to acheive is a very complicated guessing game. The only I.D. I have found very helpful is the tones in the relic and prospecting mode combined with the VDI's to make a semi intelligent guess of what the target is. For Gold nuggets This will be a fantastic machine. It sees deep and gives a tone on small deep targets, For relics this would also be a great machine because of its depth. I enjoy using it though it can be brain twisting at times and will continue to experiment. This is only my observation to this point. I have a feeling from what I have read on the prior posts that this machine is a great beach and all around machine in lower mineralized ground as far as treasure hunting is concerned. I do not doubt that whites has made a great machine. Not to forget the fact that so far I have found a lot of pocket change and one ring. The ring is the only target I have found that actually was semi deep and maintained a constant VDI #. Almost all the targets I have found here have bounced around from the negatives to the positive #'s to the point that I almost have to totally ignore them. I am trying to be fair and balanced. Has anyone had similar experiences. Metal detecting is an awesome sport and I think the MXT though a little more complicated than turn on and go machine is at least, in high mineralization a very good but technical machine that will take a while to master. Happy Hunting. Not disgruntled, just a little info for those who are in areas with soil and ground mineralization comprable to mine.
