So Mtwolf and myself got out the other day and he found his first Barber dime and his oldest silver coin, and I found my first Barber Quarter which is also my oldest Silver coin. It was my first signal in the yard, it read 12-40 which I was thinking wheat as they ring up at 12-41 consistently around here. I dug the plug about 5", put in the pinpointer and it was going nuts, I took out a scoop of dirt and saw a round blackened disk. I could see an eagle with stars on the side of the coin I was looking at and knew I had something good as I have found a few Standing Liberty Quarters and I knew what the eagle on the back of those looks like and knew it was older than that. I flipped the quater over and saw that it was a Barber Quarter, a 1908D!! So continued hunting and found a few Wheats and then I got another Wheat signal and dug a plug and sure enough it was a 1919 Wheatie, I stood up and rescanned the hole and got another 12-40 signal. I looked in my spoil pile with the pin pointer and found a very green 1907 Indian Head Cent!! Kept on finding a few wheats and ended up with a total of 9. So the Breakdown goes like this, 1908D Barber Quarter, 1907 IHP, 1919 x2, 1919S,1918,1948,1942,1940x2,1944. It was an awesome hunt for me and for Mtwolf and I. Some of you may not think these are such great finds but you have to understand that where we live and hunt, Barbers and Indian Heads are very rare. I found my 5,000th coin the other day and this was only my second Barber coin, the first being a 1913S Dime I found about 2 years ago, I have found around 9 Indian Head Cents of those 5000 coins and besides swim areas and beaches in the summer, all of those coins have come from "old" yards while looking for "old" coins, not tot lots or parks, so it is a rare thing that we both find 1 the same day in the same yard.
PS I cleaned the coin with electrolysis, I said above it was "blackened", it was barely legible before the cleaning, I will try to add the before pic. Thanks
