My Oldest coin yet !!

Baby sitting was over at 3:30 . Time to do a little detecting . I got the F-75 , left the big coil on and hit this same old tired place I have hit for years . I call one part of it "Mercury Row " because I had pulled those and Roosies from there over the years . This evening I tried hitting it at a different angle and forced myself to try not to miss a spot . I was going to keep with this program and hit the row all the way down . As I was nearing the end of the strip and working a very eroded piece of ground , I got a real nice high signal and the meter read dime and the depth gauge stayed on the top third . The Ground is hard and dry so I have a special chiseling tool and use and a hammer . I carefully chiseled around and it was only about an inch deep . It was dime sized and sure seemed thin and I wondered if I had found play money . A dousing with my drinking water proved different . I saw the face and the date 1816 !! I was astounded !!! I carefully put it in my wallet . Finished detecting the rest of that area and headed for home . I thought it was a Reale but still wasn't sure . My old coin book doesn't cover Reales so I E-mailed a couple of pic's to my hunting buddy MT , he verified it was indeed a half reale !! Thanks MT !! I can't believe I found one of these especially when I have yet to find my first Seated !! It just goes to show how crazy this hobby can be .

Thanks for looking ,
George

only an inch down.....maybe someone else passed it up as junk. Incredible find, congrats! Ron

One of my hunting friends found a 1824 I think, it was dime sized, I looked at it, and at the top, something had been silver soldered to the top, so his was real, but had been worn around someones neck and they lost it, it could have been a ear ring also. That is the oldest coin that I have ever seen found in Oklahoma...
I hope when you do find a seated, it in good shape..

Thanks BJ , that Seated has eluded me for a lot of years !! If and when I find one it's going to be another incredible day .
That's pretty cool , your friend finding a Reale in Oaklahoma . Coins certainly have a way of traveling !! There are some people on another forum who suspect mine may be counterfit . Whatever it turns out to be I really enjoyed finding it and it will always be one of my favorite coins .:detecting:
