My oldest coin to date.

I found this 1837 Capped Bust dime yesterday. It was only about 6-7 inches down. It predates my oldest coin a 1875 Shield Nickle by a long shot. The 705 picked it out of trash with little problem. I did have to listen closely to get it. As long as you get that positive repeatable signal you're good to go.

Terry, nice find! That coin has eluded me so far! I'm hoping to find a capped or draped this year! Awesome to hear your Xterra had no problem picking that out at that depth. I believe they will be around the 5 to 7 inch range here in Massachusetts also. Keep up the great finds and keep posting them! HH

That is a old one. My oldest is 1868 Indian cent.
