My oldest coin in the Philippines so

Went to several old churches the other day here in the Philippines. The first church had a section dated 1936 but feel it was built earlier.

Found a few 25 centavos coins, even 3 in one hole. Then dug up a copper disc and could not tell what it was only that it looked like a coin.

We drove further down the road to a church over 400 years old; think the oldest on this island. I found a peso then dug up another copper disc like the first. Still could not tell what is was. I then proceeded to dig up a 3rd one. Well this one was in better shape and I could see the date 1944. What caught my eye was it said "United States of America" on the coin!! Was told by an elderly local, the town Captain, this was a penny. From 1903 to 1945 Philippines was under American rule and we minted the coins. I got looking closer now at the other disc and it was a 1913 penny!!! I still cannot get a date on the first disc. If you look close at the one side you will see Filipinas.

Also found a 1960 one centavo as well.

Good thing is that the Peso coins were made out of silver so I hope to go back soon to find my first silver coin in the Philippines.

Good news; I will be back in USA first of Feb through middle of March and plan on detecting across the country. Is there anyone in LA area that would like to hunt say the first few weeks of March?

Around the second church there was at least 15 kids and 5 adults watching me. When I stopped to dig I was completely surrounded. But at least no one tried to take any coins!!!...LOL

That's the same coin I dug up back in '07 but mines in a bad condition.

Yep that's the problem here in the Philippines when you go metal detecting, i guess it's because they don't see anyone do MD that often so they get curious and the next you know your surrounded by a crowd.

On a site that I used to go to I had a several kids following me all thru the day. So what I did was just let them dig up the target for me:heh:
