hope most of you are enjoying your day off. Anyway the other day like Thursday i was working my part time job an noon was coming in so i thought OK! I'm not doing anything so ill go detect! I though working in the area where they have had a couple of wedding i would find something but nope! not there so i took my A T pro an walked over to the side of the fence area an found a stirrup pretty old an thought OK! ill keep working this one . then i got a hit in the mud about 8 inches down. Now there was some new gravel on the top a few years old along with a mix of older ground. AS i check this hit out i saw the coin roll around in the mud an i knew right off it was old! when i picked it up it was not the usual rounded coin but an older one. Now i couldn't see much on it so i took it inside an washed it off but still couldn't read much. I needed a magnifier but left mine at home so we tried the pencil an shading the coin on paper but no good. then i checked the trunk again as i was pretty excited that this was an older coin then what i have ever found. then it hit me i had a lens from an old pair of binoculars in the trunk so got them out an went back inside to see if i could make any thing out. Well after matching some of the letters up i went on to the sweet computer an goggled what i could make out Any way what i had found was a( State coin from Connecticut) This coin was a draped bust facing left an the year was 1787 Mg! i was so happy 225 years old this coin was . an to find it in back was just to neat to do. But now i understand the coin was so badly eroded due to the copper content. Well! just wanted to share that i finally made a good hit even though it was lousy condition. Happy hunting guys now i just need to find gold an then i will be happy

Congrats on the Colonial copper! Got any pics? I know they wind up looking like plain brown discs, but still...

OK! will try to get you a pic of it. MY camera is busted now need new one but will try!! thanks for reading my post!

Congrats on the colonial, I just dug up my first one a couple weeks ago. Before I cooked it we could see it was a draped bust facing right 1796-1807. All you can make out now is the back. I need to be more patient next time.

That one's still got some good looks to it, Black Davy. I stopped trying to clean them beyond light dish soap and a medium bristled scrub brush. They basically lose all definition in the soil around here... Even most wheaties are impossible to read here.
