My next Tesoro

Yesterday my wife and I went to the lake. She hit the beach and I took my Cibola into the shallows. This is the first time I've hunted in the water and I have to say I am hooked - love the cool water and the easy digging. I pulled a handful of clad, a zirconia earring and a weird black gemstone (which could be costume glass) held in a tiny metal surround. That last piece has a minuscule amount of metal in it and the Cibola rang clear as a bell on it at 5 inches below the lakebed.

My wife also played around with the Cibola. She has a low-end Bounty Hunter but hinted that she would be interested in the Cibola as a hand-me-down if I got something else.

So here's my situation. I really like the specs of the Tejon, and I have heard great things about them. I can use a Tejon the same way as the Cibola in knee-high water. I also like the Tiger Shark, which would add the security of a completely submersible detector while wading around. Given that I'm 800 miles from the nearest ocean and I don't anticipate going scuba diving with a detector, is the Tejon the better investment for me?

Let me also add that I have a shot at a Minelab XTerra 705 with ALICE belt, kneepads, a Lesche digger and Garrett Propointer for $650 which seems like a deal.

I should certianly think so.

Here's my two coopers, you already have the cibola so I would get the TS, cause you have lakes there , like the one your at and don't have to go to the ocean, plus you can use it on land also, you can hip mount it chest mount it or shaft mount it, remember the TS is a fresh water shark , so options is what I like, deeper water is prime hunting spots, HH tigerhank68

Man, just think, one slip of the grip or one missplaced step and the Cibola or Tejon goes into the drink and gets fried. Do the same with the Tiger Shark and no problemo.

It's a good point, but I figure I can insure against that by using a wrist or neck strap attached just north of the box. If I drop it, the box would be held out of the water.

My hesitancy about the TS is that from what I can see the Tejon is more detector for the money.

According what kind of hunting you gonna do!? Land or water? Mostly land the get the tejon. HH

Their an unmetered machine that you can use in any water with no worries..yet can use on land like the regular detectors..

I think it's because you are paying for the waterproofing, so for the same money you get less detector. As Hank88 said, if most of the hunting is land-based, you're better off with a non-submersible unit.

about 90% of all rings are in waist to chin deep water the tiger would be the better choice for the money the XTerra is a good till you slip and it is gone.

Hi ~ why not Sand Shark (if it's gotta be Tesoro) , if You've got VLF already why not go with PI for Super smooth beach Running & Depth advantage ?

Well, it turned out that my next Tesoro was a Garrett. Bought a new AT Pro on Friday and put it through its paces this weekend. The flexibility and performance of this detector is remarkable, and it is submersible too (something I was really looking for this time around). I don't think I could have got a better detector for the money.

HOWEVER, I still have my Cibola (although it's is now officially my wife's), and I'll always have a soft spot for Tesoros. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up getting a Tejon in a year or two. :)

I have never been a Garrett fan and for the most part im still not , but the AT Pro is a really nice machine and not a bad price either , that being said I'm a huge Tesoro fan , I've owned more of them than any thing else . Good hunting :)

I think your wife got the better deal.:lmfao:

Best of luck with your AT!

Hmm I disagree. I think we both have good detectors for what we want to do. She is highly unlikely to do much water hunting at all, whereas I am going to be about 60% land and 40% water. The thing that sold me on the AT Pro was the land/water versatility at that price. Since I've got some hours on it, the other thing that really helps a Tesoro fan like me is the Pro Audio - you can use the AT Pro like a Tesoro, by listening to the audio, learning the machine and digging what sounds good. The TID is there if you want it, but the Pro Audio works in a very similar way to listening to our Tesoros talk.
