My new SE Pro rocks.:clapping:

Got up early this morning with frost on the pumpkins and thought I would put some hours on my new SE. Headed for a couple of school yards and got tired of digging clad, so I went to the oldest school in my area. Got a little bit more clad and then a nice 925 silver pendant with a cubic stone. Right after that I got a good signal and it was showing about six inches deep on the scale and I'm thinking a clad quarter or maybe a silver quarter and when I saw that eagle on the back I about crapped my pants.:super: It turned out to be a 1902 S Barber quarter and I was so close to hitting the key date jackpot by only one year. Yes, I dinged the poor girl and it mad me sick, but thank God it wasn't that key date. I also found an old Ford tire wheel grease cap and I'm thinking there must have been an old house there years ago and that's why I found the Barber, I also found some kind of Homeland Security medal and not sure what that's all about. Got a little over $4 in clad, cold hands and feet, but a nice morning all the same and my first Barber with my SE. I hunted for another hour or so hoping to find another silver coin, but getting my first Barber with the SE made my day. Thanks for looking and hope you all can get out and do some digging. HH.

Makes ya feel bad when you move that dirt to see your digger on the BIG silver coin you just dug. Makes me want to throw my digger. Nice group of finds.

Always nice to turn up a Barber Quarter; few and far between for me. Nice job!

Rich -

Very nice Barber. That's also an impressive pile of clad. That Homeland Security piece looks like those challenge coins the military puts out. Like the Ford grease cap too - I have found 3 or 4 and they were always found either near a street or garage. WTG & HH.

That Barber quarter is a nice find Eddie, Did you just get your SE? I just got mine but we have a couple inches of snow on the ground.
I,ve just been reading and trying to get some basic knowlege and reading Andy,s Hand book on the Explorer.
Can I ask what settings and coil you were using when you found the Barber? You mentioned you thought it might be a quarter so that was
right on.
I,m very anxous to get out with my Explorer SE. I,ve just used White,s detectors for the last 21 years.

Thanks Jim D. I've had my SE a couple of months now, but only had it out three times. I also have Andy's books and they are very informative and very easy to understand what he's telling you. I have been using the Pro coil that came with my SE. I have one on my XS and it has done pretty good finding the silver so I'll stick with it on my SE for awhile. I do have the SEF 10x12 coil also, but I got to eat some more spinach cause that sucker is a little bit heavier. They say that if you are a first time Minelab user then it's best to just use the factory preset values until you get to know what your machine is telling you. I kind of jumped the gun with my SE and using pretty much the same settings I use on my XS. I'm running sensitivity at 26 semi-auto and iron mask at 26 also. I have my audio volume at 10, gain 10, tone at 10, threshold tone at 10, tone variability at 10 and limits at 10. Audio sounds conduct and response normal. I have recovery both fast and deep off. I got most of these tips from Bryce and figured I can't go wrong with them. I always do a noise cancel before I start detecting and will do it a couple of more times during my hunts. Again, since you are new to the Minelab world I would just start out using the factory presets and you will be surprised. Pay attention to what your ears are telling you and when you locate a target look at your smartfind screen and make a mental note of what it sounded like and where the cursor hits on the screen. Silver will be a high pitch tone and the cursor will be in the right hand corner of your screen. That's what I heard and what I saw on my screen and new my Barber was at least a quarter before I dug it. I hope this helps and I wish you all the luck with your SE. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get along with mine.:clapping: GL & HH.

Thanks Bryce. If my first Barber with my SE is a sign of good things to come then I can't wait to hit some of the old spots we have been to before. HH.

Eddie

Thanks TokenDigger. That is my second old Ford grease cap cover. This one was in part of the grassy playground area at the school and that's why I'm thinking there may have been an old house or garage there at one time. I'll do some more research on that Homeland Security piece and thanks for your information. GL & HH.

Eddie

Thanks Rich. I do like those Barbers and have found about twenty since I started detecting. Sure wish we could find more of the seated varieties, but I guess you got to take what the ground gives you. HH.

Eddie

Thanks teleman2525. I do remember your posts on your Barbers and I appreciate your comments on my posts as well. Hope you can get out and do some detecting if your weather permits it. GL & HH.

Eddie

That Barber would have made my month Eddie!:clapping: I found my first standing lib quarter last July and hit it also, I know how you feel.
Keep um comin and congrats!:thumbup::minelab:

Thanks Aaron. Nothing worse then dinging a nice old coin like that. I'm pretty good at pinpointing and most of my plugs are about 6 inches in diameter, but I missed this one by a hair and scratched her across the forehead. Congrats on your first SLQ. I remember my first one, but I didn't ding mine. Thanks for the reply and GL & HH.
