There was a time, say about a week ago, when if I went out hunting and had a bad hunt, I would immediately head to a spot that I knew would make up for my bad luck. So when I headed out to do some shopping this morning, planning a quickie half hour hunt at a small nearby playground, I naturally put on my good, not for heavy detecting shoes and pants. I was going to buy some frozen items so the hunt had to come first. 1 hour, 6 coins, 63 cents. I could live with that total, after all I have a new outlook on detecting. I went to the store and bought my groceries. I bought a new and larger toolbox to use as a metal detector field kit. As I was passing a display of flashlights I saw a cool light that clips to the bill of a ball cap which I had to have for night hunting. I got in my truck and headed for home proud of my new attitude. I can live with a bad clad day here and there and it won't bother me at all.
Like hell it won't. It all went wrong when I got stuck behind this old man in a station wagon with FL plates who would not drive over 15 mph. When he made the turn toward my town I chose the alternate route home. The alternate route took me about 8 miles closer to a spot I have been saving for a cool wet weekend. It was hot, oppressively muggy, and sunny so I planned on just prospecting. I did one tiny little area and found what is pictured. I had 20 kids in tow most of the time. All nice except one boy who kept grabbing stuff away from me and the other kids. We discussed this and he decided he would rather help than leave and he was fine after that. 4.5 hours of total hunting. My shoes will shine right up and boy do they need it. I didn't tear my pants but they sure are dusty.
Today officially ends my first year using Garrett's. The briefest of summaries. 10269 coins. Includes 78 wheats cent and 25 silver US coins. One large cent. 3 nickels Buffalo or before. 37 silver rings, medals, chains. 12 gold rings, pendant, charms. A great big lure box overflowing with junk jewelry. (Weighs over 5 pounds.) Foreign coins from 11 countries. 11 different tokens. 2 different NY chauffeur badges from the 1920s. State trooper badge. (I should try and return that one I suppose.) One US Armed Forces military medal. At least 50 toy cars. Another big big tackel box with all the rest of my finds. Bullets, Toys, Lures, Locks, Watch Parts and on and on.
What I really want to find sometime soon is an Indian Head Cent. After that any silver coin from the 1800s. What I've never found that everybody else seems to find tons of is a harmonica reed.
I am definitely NOT hunting tomorrow.
Chris
I posted the photo of all that clad to illustrate how I am no longer obsessed with clad totals! Bwahahahahaahahahahahahaaha!
