My New/Old Sovereign XS-2

I recently picked up an older XS-2 with a (never used) 550 meter, 8" coil and 12.5" EXcelerator coil for a quite reasonable price. I'm quite impressed with its detection depth and overall performance. BUT, this puppy is so front heavy (read unbalanced) that my arm cramps after only a few minutes of use. I do have the hip-mount bag, and this does help. I wonder if anyone has cobbled together a "balance shaft" similar to the after-market ones for the Excal? I also own the Excal 1000 and the balance shaft. My GOD, what a difference that made!!!
I am truly impressed with the performance of the Minelabs, however their ergonomics leave MUCH to be desired.

Thanks,

All I can say is I have never used a Sovereign that feels so light weight and well balanced. These shaft Bill makes will make your Sovereign a different detector as far as weight and balance.

Hi John,
When I bought the Excal, I also picked up a straight shaft. It helped a bit, close, but no cigar. Then, like you, I got the longer balanced shaft off of eBay. Now that is the way to go!!! On my first outing with it I hunted from 8am until about 4pm, pretty much nonstop. I was truly amazed at how easy an Excal is to swing using the balanced shaft!!!.
So, now that I have a Sovereign XS-2 Pro with the stock S-shaft, I'm going to modify the straight shaft that I got with the Excal. The Sovereign with the stock 8" coil isn't too bad with the S-shaft, but when I put on the 12.5 EXcelerator THEN the imbalance really shows up.

Went through some of my old sovereign stuff and was able to put this together. Swings really easy with the box mounted back further. Easy to do by using the back set of holes in the arm cuff and a short piece from a spare middle shaft.
