My New Old Fisher 1212-X

curious what other think of this machine,, I recently got into metal detecting and last friday a guy at work says he has one he'll sell me for 30 bucks! he comes in yesterday with a Fisher and it says 1212-X looks in great condition so I took it to the back room and tried it on some change and it worked great so I bought it for the 30 bucks.

On the way home I hit an old homestead or maybye its a barn next to a big corn field and I found nothing but trash like huge iron rings, barrel bands, this machine seemed to discrimante well on the air test and inside the barn I had the machine all the way to Max and was only picking up the big hunks the iron. the nickel and zinc pennies discrimed out at around 6, quarter and dime where there even if maxed, nails gone at about 5-6 it was quick and brief so I can't be sure of distances and accuracy right now .

Great machine though for $30.00 , one knob, not very heavy, the rubber inside the arm cup started bothering the arm though feeling like it was causing a blister so I'll cover that next time.

no pics but from this Junk find
.
1 loaded Ted Williams Shotgun shell #6 (about 2-3" down in woods)
1 bullet maybe a 40 or a slug from a blackpowder sabot in corn field (about 6" down)
1 curved piece of metal that almost looks like a cap lock hammer thats rusted out a bit but maybe not (4" down inside foundation)
Assorted square headed nails and shorter tacks
8" round iron ring mayby 5/8 thick (inside foundation 3" down)
1 old bud can in corn field (about 10" down)

Its a good coin machine as it runs on a lower kHz.

I remember pinpointing was a little tricky with that one, and I was using it in the days before the Propointer.

You might want to get yourself one.

Otherwise, the reviews on this detector are very positive.

your absolutely right the pin pointing was tricky and more so the deper the target,, I will be getting a nice propointer soon but for now i have the Kello Co pointer from my wifes F2 package which seems to work okay.

Yes, the Kellyco pinpointer is a hunk of junk. If I were them, I'd be embarrassed to sell it.

But if it manages to get you by for now, it will have served its purpose. Just know that other pinpointers like the Propointers are very, very good.

curious about that propointer,,, whats makes it better does it read deeper thant he keely model,,, reason i ask is again today I hit a park and that keely pointer worked fine and buzzes within an inch of my target so I'm curious how much bettet the garrett is.. I'm thinking getting the propointer + Lesche digger package from one of the sponsers..

The Propointer is built better for one thing. The Kellyco version is extremely cheap. I know their employees review this and other forums and you will notice that no one is rushing to defend the Automax, or whatever they're calling it these days.

The Propointer does go deeper and is more accurate. Mind you, I didn't use the Automax long for comparisons because mine died pretty quickly (did I mention its lousy construction?).
