my new mxt 300

or should i say my wife's new mxt 300...I received it about a week ago and due to my work schedule, I was unable to assemble it until yesterday. She couldn't wait to get her hands on it but of course I had to read the instructions and try to interpret them to her. Our first time out was a learning experience... We detected our own yard taking turns with the machine while the other did the digging. we got alot of erratic readings and did alot of digging and didn't find much. I'm sure it must have been operator error...I'm guessing?? I followed the quick start instructions. We even buried a quarter, a dime and a penny at approx. 4-6". It took us awhile to get it to read the quarter and dime but it didn't read the penny.( it was slightly on its edge in the hole) I know I need to get the mxt edge book but in the meantime can anyone offer any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it. thank you.

Hi

congrats on your new detector!

The MXT is a great machine, I recommend you to read the manual from beginning to end and start using it at the preset levels, test it and feel the behavior of the machine. I recommend you to purchase a smaller coil in case you are searching on trashy areas

Good luck!

BIG congrats on your new MXT. You won't be sorry you purchased the MXT. You're on the right track and the best way to get to know your machine is practice, practice and more practice. There's a lot of good information here on the past posts. You can search all types of subjects. Good luck and you're on your way to a great hobby. HH, Nancy

Your wife has a smart husband, good choice. The MXT is a great machine.I assure you it is very easy to learn. As Nancy said, just keep practicing and you will learn the machine quickly ( and be very pleased ) Every time your ability increases you can go back to spots that you've hunted previously and see how many great finds you make that you missed before, Not sure what problems you were having on your first hunt but the biggest factor I have found is having the right coil for ground mineralization, trash and terrain. Check and adjust your basic settings ( which is simple with the MXT ) and your set to hunt. Check your ground mineralization levels in the prospecting mode.Topo's right, look into getting a smaller coil or two ( 6x10 DD, 5.3 etc,) and you'll be amazed at the performance difference in problem areas. Keep us posted and good luck.
