My new CTX 3030 just came

DEEP-ON

New member
Well is showed up on thure:sday afternoon, first of all, I would like to thank Chuck Marcum, at Indian Nation Detectors. A fantastic transaction, with really good comunication between the seller and buyer, the layaway he has, made it easy to own one of minelabs top detectors. I am really excited to try it out, but wont be able to try it till probally april. There is a couple spots that I pretty much hunted out with my etrac, I wonder if the ctx 3030 can pul some more silver out of those sites? I cant wait to see the diff between the two, I love my etrac, if the ctx is a little better still, I think I am going to be very happy with it.I was wondering, if those of you that had a etrac and went to the ctx 3030, was the transition easy or not? And any sugestions for a basic program or settings to get me going in the spring, mostly silver coins in parks. I am sure I will be doing some research on the ctx over the next 60 days, there is alot on here, if anyone can point me towards anything that may help me settle in to the new machine, that would be great, thank you, Shawn,,

Congrats you will find a lot of friendly and helpful people on this forum

I too went from an Etrac to the CTX. My bread and butter has honestly been the stock silver program, 50 conductive tones, and high trash separation. Add in the 17" coil and never looked back!!!

You'll love it!!! The first month I had the CTX, I honestly preferred my Etrac just because I knew it in and out. Once I gave the CTX an honest chance, silver count went waaaay up!!!

I'm not an Etrac to CTX user, however, I can tell you that Findmall is the best place to glean information on the setup and use of the CTX. Be sure to look at the CTX Resource Center (there is a link at the top of the CTX3030 forum home page. There you will find a number of great videos (if you are like me, being shown is better than reading about it!) on how to setup and use the CTX. Also, there are two fine videos on using the Xchange2 software put up by GateKeeper. Both of these videos are extremely helpful on a variety of facets of the software. (Go, also, to the Forum index and scroll down to the "Resource and Classroom Forums", there you will find a number of videos produced by GateKeeper, I just discovered them, so, I have some watching to do, as well!)

Read the manual, read it again, watch the videos (lots of good ones on YouTube, as well) and if you still have questions, post them here......someone is always ready to help and there are a number of resident gurus on the CTX!

Wishing you the best to come........

Welcome aboard. I'm sure you will be satisfied with the 3030. I went from a really good detector to the CTX 3030 and my finds skyrocketed, most notably my silver count just like jakechiro up there.

There is plenty to learn about this detector and this is the perfect place to do so just like others have mentioned. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I had great luck with the etrac, and it was all local areas, I have been looking around at some small older commons and parks in smaller older towns near my town, wish this ground would unfreeze.

Correction to my post of January 14th at 11:32PM.........this was part of my post:

"(Go, also, to the Forum index and scroll down to the "Resource and Classroom Forums", there you will find a number of videos produced by GateKeeper, I just discovered them, so, I have some watching to do, as well!)"

After watching the above mentioned videos, I found that these were not produced my GateKeeper, but rather, 'posted' by him. My sincere apologies for the error.

Good hunting to all..........

It can be a bit confusing, since Gatekeeper is the one "in charge" of posting the videos. However, of the six videos posted at the top of the Resource Center, Gatekeeper made four of them and two were made by Andrew Kalinowski. Below the link to the Resource Center, you will also find the link "Approved Instructional Videos". , which have been verified as accurate by Minelab. Four of these were made by Gatekeeper, three were made by Andrew Kalinowski and three were made by Mtwolf2270.

A bit THANKS  to those who take the time to share their knowledge and skills with the CTX3030. If any of you haven't viewed these videos, I'd encourage you to do so. HH Randy

I came from an Etrac as well, there is not much more to learn! I really like the Gonehunting's ferrous coin/combined setting to simplify the tones and quickly eliminate trash targets based on sound. The best thing about the CTX is that you won't get the blending of numbers that iron in the hole with a coin makes on the etrac. CTX shows both targets on the screen! Make sure to keep you swing speed slow to make sure you aren't skipping targets(even though the CTX is pretty fast). My buddy got the CTX before I did and found 2 seated dimes and a Merc in one park that I believe my etrac couldn't see due to too much iron. If you have old parks I think you will find some really good finds with the CTX.
