My new compodre-- preliminary report

I just got a new compodre. i got rid of my silver umax because i could not aford to buy a smaller coil i had no gripes whith the silver umax it was a great detector my only gripe was they would not give me the choice of coil when i got it so i am forced to buy two coils a small one and a big one the 8" coil just did not handle the high trash spots that i like to hunt ,ive gone backwards most people buy a less expensive detector first then move up to more expensive models no not me i started whith a M-6 and then got the cibola then the silver and now the compodre but i can say the compodre is a nice detector it can snipe those targets in close proximity whith ease and has great depth i found a nickle at 5" good repetible signal the thing is light as a feather and i can trully tell a defrence in the discimination its very presise, if you set it to block iron it really blocks it good foil , ect i think it does it better than the umax or if i want to run in all metal it so easy to just turn the knob and figure what is in the ground I am greatfull to Mike Parks of Mission metal detectors coon rapids minnesota for giving me a great deal on this detector i would incourage anyone to buy from Mike and go detecting whith him cool guy this compodre is a very nice machine dont be fooled by the price its top of the line my advice if you are thinking of getting a smaller coil get a compadre hope to post future finds

Well,, it's nice to hear that you have found one you really like now, although i guess it is a little bittersweet for you. I am placing my order for a Compadre today after much consideration and research on buying my first MD. I was debating between the S Umax and the Compadre. Most people here suggested the Compadre. Good luck and please keep us posted on your techniques/finds with the entry level Tesoro. I cannot wait to take mine to beach hunt in Fl next week and try it out. I will post w/pics on whatever happens after my first round.

Sounds good to me, Gunnar!

You just MIGHT do a little better on Au, as the Compadre operates at a tad higher frequency which could be superior on small jewelry.

I REALLY want a high dollar whiz bang machine just cuz sometimes I like to play with buttons and switches and stuff.

Effectively, K.I.S.S. tenet is best under most circumstances.

Dig 'em all!

I think that you made a fine choice, Gunner. It makes more sense to me to get the whole detector than just the coil. I'm thinking of getting a Compadre myself. Swung one at a detector store and it even seems lighter than my Vaquero. Good luck, hang in there, and never say quit. Dimesworth
