My Minelab Sovereign's Future

For me the Sovereign isn't going anywhere, even with newer detectors in my arsenal. The Sovereign just works and well, especially when one knows how to use this detector.Looking forward to a new season and plan on adding an additional detector.I would like to see Minelab come out with a newer model Sovereign. Thanks Ron

My brand new Soverine GT will be up for sale after my beach hunt this weekend, never used yet, and it has 2 years 7 months warranty on it. with extras. look in the Detectors for sale section. Grubstake

I feel the same way Ron on the Sovereign and plan to always have one around no mater what other detectors I may try.
I have said this before that those that spent the time to learn the Sovereign which is not that hard, they will probably always have one to use no mater which other detector they buy and try.
For me the Sovereign with the 180 meter will have a more accurate ID of any detector out there, and even though it puts all the copper and clad at 180 it is easy to tell the nickle and zinc pennies (Indian Head Pennies also) from the copper and silver and even tell the pull tabs and rusty bottle caps from good targets. I even say help to tell the gold rings from the pull tabs more than any other detector I have used, not perfect but it helps to tell the difference.

Ive never had a Sov, but you guys aren't the first ones ive heard say that they'll always have one. With all the tech advances, that's saying a lot too.

The Sovereign is too difficult to learn for most people.I hated the Sovereign the first one I bought and couldn't sell it fast enough.I flipped detectors on Ebay and got stuck with a Sovereign and figured I would have to use this ugly duckling to do some detecting. After a couple weeks everything clicked, and still like this detector. There are ground conditions and sites where this detector is heads up over other units.Too many people give up on the Sovereign too early in the learning stage.By the way I learned a lot from Rick. HH Ron

I always wanted to try a Sovereign,But one thing or another would come up. I just don't Know if I want to put the Time in to learn a New detector? I don't even like the Multi Tones on my Etrac as use 4 Tone option. I hated the Explorer Multi tones also as think 4 Tones is perfect amout for my hearing. I guess that is why I love CZ-3D's. Maybe someday give it a shot as it still has modulated audio which I love as to tell deep coins from shallow newer clad.

Harold, the CZs love iron. The Sovereign is the opposite and hates iron. With a meter the Sovereign will ID targets in the Disc. mode at very deep depths. The Sovereign can be noisy with different tones caused from the ground and targets. If you hated the Explorer tone, you probably won't like the Sovereign. The Sovereigns ID is very quick not delayed like the Explorer. One of the advantages for me with the Sovereign over the CZs I can hear deep targets better,my hearing isn't the best either. One thing that amazed me with the Sovereign in old parks I can ID the difference from zinc pennies,Indian Heads, copper pennies and early copper pennies they will have consistent readings for each different group. HH Ron

I for one like the tones so much better on the Sovereign than the Explorers as the Sovereign give you the tone and ID on the meter while you are going over the target, the Explorer give the tones that to me are to short to hear them and then don't give the ID until the threshold come back. This is good for some, but to me I can get better info with the Sovereign with the 180 meter and its tones and ID meter reading. Also the Sovereign are very hot on nickles and can pick them out of pull tabs while the Explorer was tough to do this. The nickle seem to have its own tone once you get to know it and in most cases a nickle read 144-145 while the round pull tabs read 148 and higher, beaver tails read 140-141 for me. the war nickles can read like a reg nickle and can read all the way to 151, but has the nickle tone to them. Once you know the tones you can just swing along and when you hear the right tone it will stop you in your tracks and you can check it out. The 180 meter is used for the close tones you ears may not tell the difference in and on the deep ones it help to see the number trying to climb, but just can seem to to get the correct number being so deep an weak sounding.
The Sovereign are a slower swinging detector as you want to hear all the different tones to find some great finds that are deeper and swinging too fast you will not hear them.
Myself I have never seen a detector that can ID as well as the Sovereigns and still have one of the best depth too.

I got into this Hobby about three and a half years ago. Bought a Sovereign GT on the advice of My Brother-in-Law. His brother has one and my Brother in law had seen the results of what the Sovereign can do in the hands of an experienced individual.

Initially I thought that I had wasted a chunk of money. I could not understand anything the machine was telling me. It seemed that all I was doing was digging pull tabs and other scraps of aluminum. I finally put a meter on the machine and the light at the end of the tunnel started to show just a little bit.

After a couple of years I decided that I did not want to ever be without a sovereign so I purchased a spare that sits gathering dust while I continue to use my original machine. Hopefully the spare will never be needed but it is just my insurance policy in case I ever need it.

I love that High tone that it gives on Copper pennies, Dimes and quarters. I have reached the point that a lot of times I can dig a target based on just a bit of high tone and have a nail, bolt, screw come out of the hole with the coin. I always pat myself on the back when that happens.

Yes I like my Sovereign. It has been very good to me.

The best beach detector out there. Looking at new releases coming out it doesn't look like there will be any new competition anytime soon. Take care of the one you have.
