Went to a park that used to give up $6.00 to $8.00 in coins but this is all I could scrounge up today. The silver coin is a 1943 Aussie shilling. Picked the ring up with the first swing of the coil. All you boys from down under, what is the shilling worth in American moola? And it is silver isn't it??

Slightly?? I would love to find anything silver. 3 mos detecting now.... NO silver yet....

You sure are lucky.......first swing gets a ring.

Yeah I stepped across the sidewalk from my van, made a pass next to a tree, and there it was. Wish I could do that every time. HA.

I hear ya, anything old here is about like the before mentioned hens teeth! CONGRADULATIONS though!!

Thanks Ian. It's strange that they list almost every year but mine and when I entered a search for it nothing came up. For three years, including 1943, these coins were minted in San Francisco.

When I dig up old silver from another country, I always wonder just how long it's laid there?

In 1943 you can just bet that who ever lost that missed it that day. That was alot of money. A dime could have just about paid for lunch.

Nice Find ! :clapping:

Yeah a dime back then paid my way into a movie - a real movie, bought two candy bars or ice cream cones, two cokes or pepsis, bought a cheeseburger, or two-thirds of a gallon of gas. My how times have changed. I used to get a quarter to go to the movies and that paid my way in and bought me a coke-candy bar-popcorn. And they say there is no inflation.
