We took a trip to Longboat Key on Fla.'s gulf coast last week in June with both the PI and Excal machines. I decided to give my White's PI Pro the first whirl and immediately dug a small .925 ring from a depth of near11" in wet sand @ Treasure Island Beach. from there things degenerated to a steady diet of wire mesh from storm destroyed crab traps. I persevered with that machine but decided next day and next beach that Mr. Excal was to be my weapon of choice. Unfortunately, the next beach I chose was Siesta and the place was crawling with Excal equipped hunters in the water and on the dry along with nearly any other brand you might want to name. Consequently precious few targets to dig and much frustration from what I had expected (from last year's results) to be a productive hunting area.
After a day off from hunting for a round of golf I resumed my hunting @ a different and hopefully more rewarding location. Hunted half the day with liitle to show to the point of nearly packing it in when I got a sweet sounding low tone in the headset and dug a 10kt ladies emerald and diamondchip ring. Buoyed by that success I decided to give it a couple more hours and some 40 minuters later I got that low pitched sweet sound that I love and dug another 10kt ladies coin ring.
Golf the next day again and then a return to my successful beach following day bright and early. Had a good hour and a half before being invaded by another four water hunters. At some point in that interval all by myself I looked up after digging some target to find myself staring at a VERY LARGE brown shadow in the water a scant 10 feet away. After freezing up with the thought SHARK!! screaming in my head a somewhat less panicked voice said MANATEE! and my urgent desire to not be in the water subsided. Was amazed and dismayed when they just waded right out in the same area I was searching. That particular beach is studded with concrete and rock jetties for erosion control and I figured when I saw them on the beach they'd probably pick a different section as would I but I guess I needed to think again, at any rate that day was not nearly as productive as the previous. Coins junk and a small gold earring. Now before anyone axes de question: "Ain't ya bein a tad territorial considering your location was probably their backyard?" let me say this. If I hit a beach and see another hunter I ain't gonna get in the water closer than 100 feet from him/her and then I'm goin AWAY from their direction of search. Not so with two of these individuals. I know I'm gonna hafta hear about how da beach ain't mine and all that, and I expect it but I DO know that I am possessed of a HEAP more respect for and consideration of other people than they were. Enough pouting and on to the pictures. Sorry I didn't haul the pulltabs, canslaw and crabtrap mesh etc. back to photograph you'll just have to take it on faith that I darned sure dug my share. CONSIDERABLY LESS after I gave the PI PRO the rest of the vacation OFF!
The little .925 isn't pictured due to poor focus.
Only 2 silver and 2 gold after this trip and one other to Hilton Head.
I'm behind I know, but headed back to Hilton Head Monday... YeeHah!!
Enjoy folks

P.S. Found the silver ring with the sapphire or opal last trip to Hilton Head
