My latest search project.

I have a lead on an old beach that was used in the 1950s and earlier. At least four people have described in detail the old beach location and I will probably search tomorrow.Yesterday I put on my waders and waded about a mile around the shore line searching, and found at least 3 possible sites. This beach is going to be more difficult to find than I originally anticipated, but should be worth the research effort. The Sovereign has been prep ed stripped of the S-1 probe and meter,a binocular strap around my neck will carry the unit high as possible to avoid contact with the water.I'm waiting for my water scoop, which should be here tomorrow.I was surprised how far the waders enabled me to wade from the shore line. Just please be careful not to trip, Ron! Years ago I would wade the river with one of my land machines hunting. Just stupidity, because that river has a lot of hard slippery bedrock and I could have easily fell. A friend has asked me to hit that river this year but I said I'll only help him hunt while he uses his Excal, because there is no way I'm risking my GT in that river. Just too slippery and too many rocks to trip over. Now, the beach is a different story. But even still I have to watch for the occasional rock or hole at the beaches I hunt when waiding.

Let us all know how you do and good luck!

Good luck Ron. My scoop should be here in a few days as well.

Critter I agree you can't be too careful, there are three areas that have a sandy floor. The places with the rocks on the bottom have holes and is slippery. Also around the lake deep drop offs just right lake shore. These are the reasons I choose not to bring the Sovereign on my first scouting expedition. Thanks Ron

Gary at this point very good possibilities, but still a lot of work to find the correct area, and then recover. Thanks Ron

Ron,

Sounds like a dream hunt. I take it there are many private properties nearby? How about a canoe? If you can borrow one, bring all your stuff with you and once you find the location, then you can row ashore to the beach. Just a thought. Then you wouldn't have to wade along the shoreline for a mile? That is a ways walking in the water. Bring a cheap little camera too and then you can take pics, show your friends and then maybe they can discern the location. Maybe they will recognize a landmark. Be safe and wish you lots of old coins & jewelry! - Jim

Using one should slow or limit the amount of lake that fills your waders if you trip or dunk. No one like to think negatively about an outing that should be fun. Happened to me last year when I caught my feet on some rebar or cable on the bottom of an ocean beach. I was relieved that I was using a water unit and I was only waist high in the ocean. Wet suits are safest but waders make the cleanup to go home easier.
Good luck.
