My latest repair on my hypochondriac Excalibur, (theres a surprise)

Bottomfeeder

New member
I used my Excal out in the lake the other day, everything was working fine, lots of signals, etc. After a few hours i suddenly started getting a much weaker volume in the earphones. I stopped hunting and wiggled the cord, sure enough, by wiggling and messing with it, it would suddenly start working properly. But as soon as I took the tension out of the grip, it went back to very soft.
Luckily I'm the kind of guy who takes a minimum of two detectors when I go hunting.I was 272 miles from home! I switched to the CZ-20 (old reliable)!!!!, and had a fun and successful hunt.
Back home today, I trimmed back, and resoldered the wire connections I had done a year or so ago. I taped them up good and solid, and now I am applying three coats of a liquid coating that is waterproof, etc. This stuff is sold as a liquid coating for guys to dip their screw driver handles, plier handles, etc. in.:nerd:
I figure I can really get a water tight seal, then apply anothe cover of tape over that, then maybe one or two more coats of sealer. PLUS, then tape some chicken tie "stress relievers running with the wire to take the beating instead of the wire and my patch job.
So, lets see how this latest "Low tech" repair from Bottomfeeders chamber of electrical marvels comes out. Stay tuned!!:look:

cut the cable, drill out the cap and cut your cable, pull the cable back in, silicone RTV seal it and resolder your plug.

If you look inside, you'll see the 2 plug pins where the headphones plug in.

See I told you you could be a Minelab Repairman, all you need now is a pressure tester for them waterproof checks.
