My Kind Of Sand Scoop:

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
Here's the type of sand scoop that I have. We were going to a beach and Larry already had one of those plastic square scoops, but I didn't have anything. I got to thinking what would work. I bought a long handled strainer from Farm & Fleet and then purchased the tight rubber fitting handle from a kitchen shop to go on it. Works great and you can dig a round hole in the sand very easy and then strain your sand out and see the goodies all without getting on your hands and knees. I love it because it's fast and extremely lightweight. Stainless steel no less! Yes, it's my women's ingenuity with working in the kitchen too long. Oh, and soon afterwards Larry wanted one for himself. HH to all, Nancy

The first few times in the field, I took my wife's colander! Worker great albeit a bit too big!

How does it work in the wet sand for you Nancy? I had to go to one of the ones that has the 1/2" mesh when I was working the beaches but I am also getting into the wet sand.....Ray

It worked great in wet sand. I was very happy all the way around with it. Lightweight, long 12" handle and could make a 6" hole in the sand to sieve. With handle and all, it'a close to 18" long. Makes it nice so all you have to do is bend over and scoop with one hand, and detect with the other! All for about $10. HH to all, Nancy

Great idea Nancy. Just curious; the straining mesh looks like tennis racquet string. Is this right?
Can't find such strainers over here. I'd be happy to pay you for one plus p/p as my knees are failing
so kneeling down gives me the 'proverbial' I have a Whites MXT and Teknetiks T2. Happy with both.
Best wishes,
Brian

Brian, The strainer part is made of stainless steel and all the rest is also except the rubber handle that fits over it. It's very lightweight and so easy to use and NO KNEELING! I would be tickled to death to make one up for you. It might take me a couple of days to get the items. I will keep you posted. I'm thinking it would be around $10 plus shipping. Not bad for a tool that will make retrieving items easy!!! Thanks Brian, you just made my day!!!!!! HH to all, Nancy
