My hunting priorities have changed with the price of gold.

Rained off an on today.I finally got to the park I planned to metal detect and the parking lot was full with cars another outside wedding.Forgot my Tux so I went to a baseball park a block away.My goal today is to search for pull tabs. The baseball field complex is very well groomed so I decided to search a patch of lawn off the parking lot near a small lake.First couple of targets a square tab and pieces of can slaw.A very strong target with a 480 on my meter probably more can slaw but down about six inches a property of Ford Motor Co. metal tag.My next target was 412 on the meter,my meter adjusted to 480 for a US Quarter will show an ID 385 for a nickle so this reading is higher than a nickle. After cutting a plug and digging down another couple of inches I could see what I thought was the side of a gold screw cap.I could see the gold had a shine and was surprised it wasn't a screw cap but a gold ring. The ring, good weight,mans,14k,with a yellow stone recovered at a depth of about 6 inches.Continued the search found some clad and zinc.My point I would have never dug a target in the pull tab range a couple of weeks ago.I consider my self lucky the Stats can't be normal 70 pull tabs for every gold ring.Only 930 pull tabs left for my goal of a 1000.

Congratulations Ron, a very interesting study you have going. You were near water, that must be a helpful factor with jewelry and I'm wishing I had kept the 550 meter, but I do like the bar graph one. I feel like I'm learning something from your effort.

Nice find Ron, it will be of great interest to see what you come up with in the next 930 tabs.

Best regards,
Steve

James,my theory is if you want to find silver lots of wheat pennies will be found. To find gold lots of pull tabs will be recovered to find gold.Great to get lucky today.

Steve, well it will be interesting if some kind of ratio pattern will come from the 1000 pull tab hunt. Thanks

Congradulations Ron.

You started finding the gold at the front of the pull tab 1000 range instead of at the back. Thats great.I dug some tabs today, but no good luck. I''m hunting a vacant city block very close to an old downtown that I'm sure has been hit hard but i"ve found 5 wheats and a rosey. I'm sure that there are a few very old coins here. Cya-Mark

I like the Gold Ring Ron, Very Nice........I never had much luck finding Gold on land, A very tuff frontier........Congrads..................joe

Joe,I think most parks haven't been work hard for gold. There's gold in that mountain of pull tabs.Anyway I'll find out.Went out today and found more pull tabs. Thanks

Ron,

Looks like you are off to a great start with your experiement. I get into moods where I don't mind 'removing' all the pulltabs of an area I think might be productive. It is usually a bit of work, but they are often hiding other things either by masking or being around items with similar electronic signatures, like gold rings and trade tokens, stuff that falls into the big middle area between nickels and pennies.

Sometimes my patience and pain threshold isn't up to it and I have to do more sorting based on sounds and 'probability' of target ID's.

Good luck and I wish you all the patience in the world.

Rich,I'm going to meet up with my brother in about 3 weeks to hunt in an older park loaded with old silver. Its a few hours drive 8 hrs for me and 4 for him.I don't get many chances to search hear.At this park I'm off the pull tab diet and looking for old silver and nickles.Sovereign vs. F75 and loser leaves town.
