My hunted hard field

Well, back to my soggy Wood's Field today...Boy was it cold, and the ground was muddy....I may have a problem with my stock DD coil...It was making the detector go batty today, like it was generating self harmonics or something...display just went wild with false readings no matter how low the SENSitivity was...I had to pull the batteries and reset the machine, then it would be fine for about 3 minutes, then start again...This only happens with the 8.5x11 DD...My other coil works fine...Will have to check the coil cover...I think I am taking it off and painting the bottom with Rhino Liner...I do not know why the manufacturers don't do this...cheaper than producing coil covers...They can probably buy the stuff by the 50 gal barrel and get some robot to do the painting...Well!
Anyway...the field has been pounded every month sometimes twice a month by yours truly since 2005. Not much left out there...My pickins for 2 hours hunting...

HH,

At least there were more coins than tabs!

Hope things work out with the coil. I'm thinking of epoxy coating mine.

OK...as far as the AT PRO DD coil thing goes...Here is the skinny...The coil connector MUST be seated correctly...If that "O" ring does not seat right, the contacts will not seat right, and your gonna get falsing...keep the "O" rings lubed with silicone grease, and replace them if they get cracked, cut, or stretched and will not seat. You can buy these at any hardware store as long as you get the right size...I took mine apart, cleaned it under HOT water, let it dry and relubed it...got it to seat, and now all is well with the universe...
So as you can see...not EVERYthing is manufacturer defect...This machine takes a little maintenance...Hope this helps some others...

HH,

Good hunt!:thumbup:Glad to see that you got your coil issue squared away!:wiggle: Thanks for sharing! Happy Hunting!:)

Does this coil connector come loose on its own? I ran my NEW model At-PRO for days until all the sudden I was having pinpoint issues, same as the old one sent in twice before.

Well, the problem with the DD coil returned today, so it is going back to Kellyco or Garrett (whichever wants it)...The 6.5x9 works just fine...The DD makes the detector go flaky...I think the coil has a short...

HH,

Nice hunt, GGG!! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the coil. I noticed that I got a new coil back when the AT Pro came back from the Garrett Spa, and it sounds like others have found the same. Must have been a batch of flaky coils. I also noticed that the detector now turns on in with the same settings that were last used, which it didn't used to do.
HH!!

I think a LOT of unupdated boxes got put on new shafts, and the problems will persist for a while...

HH,

I'm glad to see your pennies are in good shape. The Euro 1, 2, and 5 cent coins don't last a year in the sand... They open up into 2 slices...
