My hookah unit ready to use

New member
The platform was cut down from a GM parts box, flaps bent over using a heat gun. Aluminum stock was added to keep the flaps from collapsing and the unti falling through the float tube, then bungy chords to secure it to the float tube.

I also added a junk inner tube, split and laced to the float tube for an abrasion guard.

The reserve tank is mounted to the compressor and snorkel braces, with stainless steel straps. It keeps it with the unit and one less item to deal with. There seems to be no excessive vibration that could wear against the snorkel. I'll run the air line up from under a bungy chord, near the reserve tank, to keep any pull at the bottom.

If anyone sees anything that looks like it might be a problem, please add your input.

I think many of us would consider building one , once we know how your
system works out , and it's costs .
I see that you did a lot of work to get it down into the tube , to
lower the center of gravity . You'll probably want to pass the air line
down through the tube , so it will "pull" down , rather than sideways
off the top of the air-tank ..... so it won't try to tip over .....
It'll probably work great , and you'll find tons of treasure !!
Congrats on the great job !! Bob R.

I bought the Hookah from a member on this site.

Hookah used but in like new condition, reserve tank, and 50' of airline, 575.00 shipped to me. It's all Keene Engineering products. You can check their site for new costs. Alaska Mining and Diving is also a distributor.

Compressor maintenance items for future use. 39.00

Added a new snorkel, 35.00

Regulator about 140.00 shipped

Weight belt 9.00

Weight mold 15.00, made my own weights.

Airline couplings 10.00

Inner tube, 25.00

Bungy chords 12.00

Total so far is 860.00 just for the above listed items.

I needed an underwater detector, so I bought a used, but also in like new condition, Minelab Excalibur, 650.00

Scrap tube- free

Platform and aluminum stock, donated by Hermit. I saved 100.00 plus shipping, by making the platform. Keene Engineering sells them too.

I've still got to purchase the wetsuit and related dive equipment. Might spend another 250.00 for it. I'll let ya'll know when I get it.

Hermit's doing a remodel of the platform in the inner tube. It should make for a neater package.

Thinking on rigging a tote handle for the hookah. I'll be glad when we get out of this design and engineering phase.

Remodel pics to come soon.

be sure to watch the condition of the tube. I change mine every year. I have had the dang Hookah sink twice. Once wiht the original tube, which had a safety air chamber and once with a truck tube. I was only in eight feet of water at the time but had just come up from 50. That could have been nasty since I had no spare tank with me.

the time the whole side blew out I would have given fifty bucks for a good one:clapping:

I hauled it home and drained the oil. pulled the spark plug adn dumped it and sprayed a little oil in the cylinder. I pulled it through a few times and the next day added oil and gas and it started right up, That was about five years ago and it has been fine

I wrote a little story about that dang thing sinking and I will try to find it and post it

Hermit and I test drove the Hookah at a fresh water lake today. Everything went very well. No detecting done, just a test run to get aquainted with it all.

First pic is Hermit, the next one is me. We had a blast checking things out.

After another run without the reserve tank, I think I found out that the T-80 compressor needs to have a reserve tank or at least the hoses connected to operate efficiently.

The outlet reed broke on last Sunday's run and after repairing it I wasn't able to get up pressure until I hooked up one of the hoses.

Just one thing.......

Good Luck with new set-up !!!!!

Hello Bob, what my hubby did was to mount his hookah system, the generator, motor, etc onto a wheel rim, which fits neatly into the tyre tube. there are no long bits of steel metal sticking out, to hold the set up into place with out dropping through the rubber tube. I'll see if I can find a photo of his system somewhere on one of my disks, and download it onto this post for you to look at. the only thing he wants to change is from a petrol run motor to an electric one. your unit is made very neatly. Do you have a dive flag that you can attach to the outlet? He has to have one when he dives here. See if I can find a photo for you of our unit.
HH Golden:)

Thank you, i'd like very much to see his unit. I've changed mine a little. I like the wheel idea, and yes, I've got a dive flag, it's also a requirement in these waters
