Great job...looks like the same kind you can buy!

That's SWEET! Looks like a dual purpose tool..kinda medeival! Being a landscaper I had planned on using a small pickaxe that I sharpened a bit..BORING! Making something yourself is always way better!

Looks like it will do the job. Always makes a guy feel good to be building his own quality tools.

Great! Make the wide digging part a bit wider by welding a piece on each side. Also the sharp part not too sharp as you can stick yourself by mistake. Dullen it a bit.

Yeah though about adding wings for the scooping part.
Super magnets are on there way.

Yes John, for sure add wings with a small welding bead! Know a good welder? I have owned about 4 different Walco picks so I have some experience.

I also have a round disc shaped super magnet for pulling out iron trash. It can be put on either the metal pick end or on the very end of the wooden handle. If you put it on the wooden handle(the magnet has to be a bit smaller than the handle) you will have to cut a round hole the exact size of the magnet about 1/4" deeper than the magnets width, install the magnet in the hole, and then use 2-part epoxy glue to set it in over top.

This is the one I want to get next:

"Apex Prospecting Picks and equipment have been developed by Engineers, with the help of professional
gold nugget hunters and detectorists. These products are the highest quality, most advanced, professional-grade gold and relic
prospecting picks and accessories available for both professional and amateur metal detecting and relic hunters.

Apex is the first and only manufacturer to provide a pick head with multiple magnet and magnet locations to quickly remove false iron targets or recover relics.

Three split steel retainers on the pick head ensure the magnets stay in place and protect them from damage during use. These retainers also allow the magnets to be easily cleaned to remove the iron debris and other undesirable magnetic particles.

For even greater recovery flexibility, an optional magnet location on the handle end may be included.
