My Headphones?

Just ordered my Explorer XS, and X-1 probe today, will be here by Thursday or Friday. I'm a musician and do recording. I want to know if a pair of Sony MDR-V6 digital headphones will be ok to use on my Explorer, or do these headphones everyone talks about, have different freq. response or what? These are very good, high fidelity phones. I'm brand new to hobby.

The plug on the Explorer is 1/4" you may need to get a Sunray adapter. It fits on the bottom of the detector and also acts as a stand. Good luck

What? I have used all kinds of stereo headphones and they have all worked.

the explorer as sold uses a 1/8 inch jack, if your phones have a 1/8 plug they will work, if they have a 1/4 plug, you will need an adapter or the sunray stand.. I recommend getting the stand and using phones with 1/4 inch plugs

While they would work, I'd be tempted to use another pair (either cheaper, or more expensive, detecting headphones) as those Sony V6's are pretty decent audio headphones.
Detectors have a relatively limited frequency response (vs high-fi gear) and ruggedness, noise reduction, etc are usually considered to be the features one looks for in this application.
Either way ... good luck & HH ... Gord.

Although the phones you have will work with the Explorer, most of the Hunters use the Gray Ghost or Timberwolf phones. They are made for metal detectors and are more rugged and block out more of the outside noises than your Home audio type phones. Purchase a Sun Ray stand/adaptor from Guvnor or one of the Sun Ray dealers or directly from Ralph at Sun Ray. It has a 1/4 inch jack built in and will eliminate the 1/8 in plug problems. I personally prefer the Gray Ghost NDT.

Don't play around. Get some Gray Ghost Headphones!
Your gonna wind up buying them sooner or later.
I'd start with the GG's or timberwolves and take it from there. The difference between the stock phones and some good one's is like night and day.

Sorry to mislead you. I meant 1/8" plug to a 1/4 adapter.
