My GT is here!!!

Tired Rooster

New member
Just got my new Sov. GT this afternoon! Opened the box, put it together, put the battery on charge! I hope to try it out for a little while tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure I'll have a few questions for some of you experienced Sovereign guys before too long. Over and out for now.

Great machine !! i use mine mainly for field and woods hunting , if a big storm hits all the beaches here and takes off a feet of sand then i will use it in wet sand i found lots of old coins and relics with that machine it goes deep , i put Rons Insight meter on mine and a S-1 seach probe i only use it hip mounted with a S-12 search coil and a pair of Black Widow head phones IMO the best . very easy learning curve machine . Good luck Jim

Yep, I remember the day mine came in. Couldn't wait to get outside....it was raining. So I went down into the basement laid down some coins and a piece of iron (I recently dug with my other detector) and went to "pre-k school" with the GT lol. Hearing all the strange noises I started thinking to myself, "what the heck did I get myself into?" The next day I went into my backyard and started searching around in DISC and really got an earful ! All these crazy sounds / tones - again I thought to myself "what kind of junk did I just buy?" LOL It was an overwhelming noise machine. Even though I had been enquiring on findmall about tips / tricks on how to get the most from the machine and learn its features, the real learning took place in my backyard.

Keep reading and re-reading the articles here on findmall. As you are out in the field, those answers / posts that people gave you here on findmall will come into play and you will start putting 2 & 2 together. At least that is how it was for me. I love the GT and its capabilties... Certainly can be overwhelming to learn at first but it is worth all the time and effort as it will pay off (literally) if you stick with it. Keep us posted on your progress and best of luck in the field - Jim

Best of luck with your new machine, while the batteries are charging read the manual

Great advice. Read the manual and get a basic understanding of the detector and then the forum will help you better.

For most the first impression is what kind of junk did I just buy as all the different sound the Sovereign makes. I have seen some sell the Sovereign the same day and later buy one back after reading these forums how it is confusing with all the tones to begin with, but once you start to learn the Sovereign language it is a simple detector to use and get better as you use it and learn something each time out with it. The biggest thing to remember is to have some patience and don't give up on one of the best detectors made, it will be worth it.

give it time...if you are use to a beep and dig machine you are going to hate this machine before you love it....after 2 or 3 days of listening to those musical fart tones i started pulling coins out of my heavily hunted back yard .... i even found a large cent .... after a while you will be able to tell what it is and how deep just by sound...thats when you will love it... at the beach or in the farm fields its awesome.....
