My Greatest find ! Gen. Palmer Civil War letter & HIS medal

Antique lover

I think this is a GREAT find.It is a telegram from Lt. Sam Pitman dated 1863 to Brig.General Palmers wife . It is letting her know that he is "unhurt and behaved gallantly" . Still has the orig.envelope it came in.I also have a medal that was also his.
It is from " The Grand Army of the Republic Veteran 1861 - 1866 ". Does any body know what the value of something like this could be ?

I have seen some good (high) estimates on the Antiques Road Show. Several items from the same person that can be verified and dated are the best of that category.

Nice antiques.
