Hi guys, I'm in the uk and have found about 42g of 14k (1necklace and 2 rings. I also have 14g of 18k (4 rings). This is the first time I've ever properly gone detecting and found stuff other than coins and cheap stuff. I'm nearly out of money now, so I should cash the gold in. Cupajo said that prices are low for gold right now I still think that I will get about

Precious Metal Calculator from Dendritics, this site will help keep you "up to speed" on prices Mate!

Prices have been up and down several times in the past few years, so you may want to wait a bit to sell, but I'm no expert in these things. (The last gold I sold was when the price hit $635.00 on its way to $1,800.00!!)

Who knew?

Thats a tough decision, sell or hold, good on ya for your haul of loot and thinking ahead. I sell as I go to finance my hunting as well. Try to be creative on your "too good to scrap" finds to get top dollar. You should be able to get a really nice boat at this time for little or nothing, plenty of them out there abandoned when the economy took a dump. You might even be able to crew on some rich guys yacht that he needs to have transported to the Med for the summer? Your a free diver, so I assume your relatively young and in very good shape, which opens up a World of possible adventures you may find yourself in!

If its too good to scrap you can TRY an auction site wth a reserve. I sold a few. Only one ring got me much more than scrap though. And fee-bay and pay-up-pal took their share. I have NO idea what the market is over there. We have Craigslist which is free but I have not tried. Your right gold has taken a dive and if your desperate, maybe sell one or two of your plain pieces to keep you afloat and keep the rest. I still have a few pieces. Nobody can predict the market BUT most feel its going to climb back up and way up. Who knows. A .25 diamond is really small though. I was offered 110.00 for a .75 diamond I found last year. LOL I still have it. A few years ago I got a grand for a .50 diamond and 2500.00 for a 1.1 carat diamond. I have lots of quarter carat diamonds and smaller. Diamond are also super inflated by jewlery stores. Go in one and look at a .25 carat ring and you will know what I mean. You pay 1000 times the scrap value of the gold for a ring and they THINK the diamond is worth tons. LOL well they want to sell it for tons. Good luck but if it was me, I would keep as much gold as I could. Sell only what you need to get by on right now.

This is just me. I hold on. To all of the treasure. lol. I have rings from when I first started in 2001. Unfortunately my first two gold rings are gone, don't know what happened.

Golds gone down a bit. Supposedly its going down, or has potential to go down more. Choice is yours. If your gonna scrap, do so today. If your gonna polish it up an sell, you can do that pretty much anytime. Keep in mind, most auction sites charge 15 to 30 % fee for the sale, an additional up front listing fee, and then cashing out with something like PP as scuba has said, they will take a % on the balance.

If it were me, id get a case and start a collection. hh an gl. -Joe

Hi, its my first post, was gonna do an introduction first but needed to jump in here and let you know my thoughts as i'm in the UK :ukflag: and was in a similar situation before xmas..
I sold all my gold last year, I still regret it, but it was a necesity at the time  , if you decide to sell, avoid ebay, you will get ripped off with fees and fees on the fees! one of the best places ive found to sell is Hatton Garden Metals, they are honest,( I sent some gold off and thought it wasnt even 9ct gold (dull and un-marked, Spanish beach gold), and when they paid out it turns out it was 18ct) and speedy too. But they dont give you anything for the stones, so best to sell items with stones seperately, or hold onto them?
If you can hold on, do so, as prices arent great at the moment see here
Good luck whatever you decide :beers:

You can also talk to a jeweler about reworking some of your gold and gems into a piece of jewelry for you wife/girlfriend - I did that with something a while back, and it turned out very well. He melted the gold, made the gem mount, and mounted the stone. Some of the gold went into buying a chain for the locket that he made. And he got paid pretty well too!

Thanks guys for the advice. I am going to try and hold on to it and make it my pension, but im so skint! I might do what scubadetector Said and sell some of the plain stuff. I am 39 now mud, I'm not as young or fit as I was, but thank you :) my dream is to float around the med, detecting and fishing. Another 20 years like the last 3 months and I'll be there. I more trip possible from the 5th to 12 march, Balearic Islands this time.... I wish I could post pics, bu it won't work and I've had no replays from the site about it. Good luck guys, water wizard

I find between 6 and 27 thousand dollars a summer in gold, silver and platinum. I keep some and I sell some. The ONLY place I sell is to ARAGOLD.COM I just called them and their website is down. They give 98% of the value. They also take shipments from overseas.

To caculate what you have you can go to this website IF you have the weight.

http://dendritics.com/metal-calc/

You can take off 2% of that and you know almost exactly how much they will pay.

And you CAN make money off Fee-Bay. It has to be a good ring though Here is a picture of one of mine. I got a lot more than scrap even with the fee's

Water, PM me with your picture problems. You can make a FREE album at photobucket.com upload them there and then put them on here easily. Thats what I do.

Last yr. I had a engagement ring [offered $85 scrap} Sold it at a soc. club / bar for $400 Gold is so high the people who love bling will pay well over scrap and still get a great deal!

Yeah what Dancer said...my wife sold a lot of my gold/silver rings/bracelets/necklaces one year at her garage sale for more than scrap! 10-15 bucks for a silver ring at her garage sale, where I'd a got maybe 5 for scrap. I might have just as well sold them for scrap though, 'cause I never saw a nickle of that money!

Lol! Sounds familiar mud!! ...... I am going to keep my gold and sell all the silver stuff. It's not worth very much, but I recon I'll get way more selling it 2nd hand than for scrap. Garage sale here I come! Top tip thanks :)
