My Goals For This Years Detector Finds - Yours??

The club forum is extremely slow right now so here is something to think about and post your thoughts. Do you have any metal detector finds goals for 2013? Just think about it for a while. Doesn't have to be a lot, just one or two or however many you want to post.. Here are a couple of mine. (1) Find a new first for me (large cent, two cent piece, seated coin, silver dollar, etc), there are so many more, (2) Find 20 silver coins. (3) 1 - 3 gold rings, I plan on digging a lot of trash signals this year in hopes of finding those illusive rings. (4) 10 -15 indian cents. I was somewhere in that area last year so I would like to match or better it this year. I have more goals but this is a start. I would like to hear any of your ideas and or goals for this year. Looks like the ground may thaw a bit by this weekend so we may be able to get a good start on our hunting. Hoping to see some posts here. Daryl

Gold would be a nice goal to shoot for this year. Another goal is to find some virgin hunting grounds.

I never was one for detecting goals, I just hope to get out there and get as much hunting as time will allow and take the finds as they come....

Since I have re-entered back into the hobby after 20 years (December with a new CTX) and live in a new area of the country since then, my goals would to 1. become a part of the Peoria club and come to the club meets once a month. 2. I would like to find a few guys to hunt with on a regular basis the Woodford County area. 3. Get in at least 5 hours of research in each week before the ground thaws.

I think that will be a good start for me and my learning curve back into the hobby. Thanks for the "charge" to set some goals.

Hello riversjourney

Welcome. (1) I think you would enjoy the club, a lot of great people there. (2) A few of the club members are from Woodford Co. If things work out I am going to Peoria to do some hunting this Friday. I don't know your work schedule but if you're free and want to go give me a call (309) 248-7947. (3) Research is the key to good finds. Daryl

Thanks Flint hunter! I would love to meet up Friday afternoon. I should be off the early afternoon if all works out if that works with you. I will give you a ring tomorrow about time and place.

Hi Riversjourney, Welcome to the forum and to the return of metal detecting. It would be great to have you join the PATH Club. We'll keep you posted on here about the monthly meetings. We do have a lot of wonderful people and we plan on having a calendar year of fun and hunts. Larry and I are from Woodford Co. also. I grew up in Lowpoint.

Sounds like this Friday will be a good time to get out for January. I wish I could join in on the fun but this ear infection isn't going anywhere any time soon. Another call into the doctor. Hope you all do well detecting.

Have fun and HH,

Nancy

Hi River and welcome to the forum. I was a little confused at first until I figured out the change in your log-in name. The CTX is a very nice detector and we have four or five members using the CTX now. Good luck tomorrow, I don't know if I will be out hunting or not, will have to wait and see. Good luck tomorrow.

Nancy and Larry, Thanks so much for the kind and warm Welcome! I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you and hunting with you both as well! :twodetecting:

Yes Larry you are a fine investigator! You figured out that both of those were me, I wanted to use a "handle" and not my name as a handle, so that is why the change.

Peace to you both,

River

Follow up to this post. Yesterday, I was graciously invited by one of your kind club members to go detecting in Bradley Park for 2 and half hours on such beautiful Friday. This was basically my maiden voyage with my CTX, and I had not been detecting for over 20 years..... since having 7 kids slows ya down a bit, and refocuses your priorities. So Goal ONE! Learn the detector! Well, at the park, the first hour I got lots of sounds! I went more with the goal to begin the learning curve on this machine. The first 45 minutes I got lots of sounds and then a few more sounds (Lot different than my "Old School Garrett from 35 years ago~ ;-) , then at about an hour into to detecting I got my first hit.... a 1918 Wheat! and then in the next hour I got a little busier with 6 more coins. (1 wheat, 4 Memorial, and 2 Jeff nickles). I went home, feeling that I had a good learning day, with many more to come!

Today, I worked in the yard, but as the day progressed it was getting colder. And before the snow and cold weather hit tonight, I decided later in the afternoon to get my CTX out for about a half an hour to just do some listening. At the end of that half hour, I got a good sound, and found at about 5 inches a 1874 Indian Head (it was standing straight up and down in the dirt)! My home was built in 1965, but the property next door used to be a old school, it shows up on some old topo maps that I have been looking through. (Goal 2 research, research research) So I thought I would share the pick of my first good find.... thanks for reading. Tried to download a pic, but it was to big. So it is on my face book page. " Friend me: and you can see it. My wife and I do Face-book together, so the name is "Blane Crystal Rings" Thanks for letting me share my first finds! I look forward to meeting each of you in the next few months and at club events! :) River
