My friends new AT pro

Low-Boy/LCPM

Active member
My buddy got the AT Pro the other day it works great...He is an F70 user...and this is a way different machine from my G2 and LTD and his F70. We tested it at a place we are very use to...we programed it after watching At videos and reading posts here. It seems in pro mode there is a lot of info going on and it is hard to hear a good target near trash or iron. It is not as fast as the DD on the F70 and same with the G2. So it seems it is easy to miss a good target onless you really listen very hard to those higher repeatable tones that seem to hide with the grunts...

Once you do get a tone you have to really slow down..the upside to this is we are talking masked targets that iron is hiding and we are starting to realize that to hunt in any ground that has masking you have to have a different mind set....a real different type of hunting from his F70 and I would say a lot of machines. So we can see the At pro is not for everyone that is just starting out. He has not been using the headphones and this way we can both hear the machine while he hunts. But I told him the headphones are going to really help you hear more.

He wants to hunt at parks to see how deep it will go and we are setting up a trip at an area we know in town that we have hunted for the past few years...We kind of own the park you might say. I have hunted it with the LTD the T2 and the Omega and the G2 and he has used his F70. He is hoping that the AT will be deeper and hit on some of the coins we know are out of range..well that is his hope that it has an edge to his F70.

But again I told him its strength may be at unmasking and it may hit on some targets that are near iron or with iron in the same whole...I make a lot of videos on youtube so I may have to do a video on what we find with the AT...Again in the pro mode it is a way different machine then any machine I have used..I don't know if it unmasks as well as in the STD mode as in the pro mode?

Also with iron audio on it makes this a real hard machine to master and maybe in time he can understand that...He set it up in Pro mode iron disc at 35...0 mode then tried same setting in coin mode.
We read that the DD is faster in the pro mode...I wonder if he should get the sniper coil to start out on? We have bad ground where we live and most place we hunt will have trash or iron.

He is also wondering about park hunting..I read where one guy hated it because that machine was picking up all the trash and his head was going to explode!

I don't find the AT Pro to be as noisy as the F-75 LTD myself. I watch your videos all the time and I really enjoy them. The iron audio should only be used to double check a target. Switched off it does away with a bunch of the noise. I agree with you that the strength of this machine is the ability to find the masked targets. It has that ability above any detector I have ever used. There are some things I personally changed like most of the other users. I put on the Gizmo. I also put on the rod clamps, and I'm looking forward to the headphone adapter. But over all this detector can run very well with the big dogs. I need to spend more time with the detector myself before I can tell just how good it is. But on the masked targets and ability to hose it off I enjoy it so far.

I sincerely hope you are in good health and continue to film your hunts.

It does a pretty good job at unmasking coins Lowboy. The iron audio can be useful. I turn it off and on trying to learn whats its telling me.
Keep us posted on how it goes. I think its a winner!!

We will keep testing he doesn't mind having a relic hunter and another detector for parks though I am sure the At would be just as good STD coin mode and maybe not pro mode so he can feel that he is closer to the sound of the F70...does the At go as deep in STD mode and would you use the 6x9 for park hunting. I know in bad dirt the DD is better and faster? This is what forums are for but Tim can't really express his ideas so he hits me with them.

Slower than you are used to with the Ft machine's.....But the beauty of it is it will get great depth at a slow sweep...

it will unmask better if you just get rid of the nail's at say 32-33 iron disc....leave the iron audio on...Set sens wide open...pro mode......after alot of testing I have come to the conclusion it unmask better with all the extra noise coming in....

...I want to see what some other's start saying about it...... I will say this give it a good 30 hour's of use (getting in tune with the audio)you will see target's come out of site's if you are patient at listen well that you would of thought were not there with other detector's....

There's alot of great detector's built today for unmasking and they all are very capable but if you love audio and like to chase after some iffy target's it is fun and productive machine for sure...

it has great depth but it come's at a slow sweep for the ultimate depth...it will peek deep into the ground even in lot's of iron infested area's....

The pro audio mode is not for everyone and is noisy but is very beneficial in un-masking...Keep an open mind with it don't dismiss the technology you are experiencing ...

We all hunt different area's ........I can't stress how much DIFFERENTLY the AT Pro will do from one area to the next ........YES , it will handle iron masking with the best of them ......YES , it will hit coins DEEP , and YES, if you are in a trashy area that has many bottle caps and pull tabs , you will get an EAR FULL !!!...... You cannot discriminate out either of these as you will be discriminating out gold in the pull tab range, and you will be discrimnating out Silver in the bottle cap range ...... You have to run your Iron discrimination up to 35-40 and run your Iron Audio OFF unless you are checking to see if what you think is a coin is a bottle cap .......This is a nice feature , but I about wore that button out yesterday in the park where I hunt ..... Single frequency machines the way they are made have a hard time differenciating between a bottle cap and a coin becaue they are the same on the conductive scale .....They are different on the ferrous scale , but the same on the conductive scale , so they read the same on single frequency machines ...... My park was SO FULL of bottle caps that I was CONTANTLY on the Iron Audio button at least 10 tmes for every step I took ......I could not deal with it anymore .....My pardner use to have an F75 and said that it was worse than the AT Pro !!....HOLLY SMOKES !!!..... Never again !!.....This has nothing to do with the AT Pro on it's own , but more that it is a single frequency machine ......... You won't walk very far hunting a trashy park with a single frequency machine as you will be bombarded with targets that all sound good until you check them with Iron Audio .....and even then some of them fool you .....Jim
