My FIRST!!!

Ironically, last week I gave kudos to a member who found a large cent and I commented that I had never found one. Well, that changed tonight!!! I am happy to say I found my first. Old home site built in 1815. Got permission and found it about 8ft from the sidewalk about 8" deep. I was so excited I almost yelled out loud. Ha Also found the 1954 silver quarter and a wheat. For me... a great evening.

Congratulations on your first large cent and it looks like it has very good detail. Nice going.

Randy

Just curious, what were your numbers. I'm new to CTX and learning

Regarding my numbers, I was running with very high sensitivity (27) and the numbers were 12-43 to 12-44. I mention the sensitivity because it seems to "change" the numbers a bit. I think it is interesting also that the quarter that I found was also showing a 12-44 to 12-45. Normally, a quarter is a 46 - 47, but the tone was very strong and the coin was ~ 6" deep. Even with the CTX, I tend to put more faith in the tone than the numbers. Where I live in Kentucky, the soil can change very quickly. For example, in the old site, the large cent was in very dark soil whereas the quarter was found ~ 40 yds away in red clay soil.

Very nice for you! Love those oldie goodies.

Wow, thats very cool! Did you change your settings for the different soil at all? I just got back from hunting in desert and rocky soil and just didnt find much.
Im sure part of it is the settlings I had. Also new to the 3030, but headed to the Sabisch class on Sunday in Virginia. Hoping that will help me.

Ok I appreciate it. My explorer se gave me 00-29 on a quarter. Question two, do you use the wireless module? I was given one with my unit and I love it.

Good for you! Nice find!

Congrats that first one is always the hardest! Numbers you got for it are typical if you are running Ferrous Coin, the numbers seem to be a bit lower in that setting.

Good for you. Many more to come. Location location location. Look for the old spots the coins will come. GL
