My First Week with E-trac

Silver_Surfer

New member
Hi everyone!
So I finally got an etrac after about a year of using the Whites DFX 300. I revisited my brothers 1940's home to test out the machine and even try my luck a little. I had done the same when I got my DFX and found a few wheats way back when. Anyway, wouldn't you know it I found my first silver! Pretty excited about it, as this was of course the main reason I got the etrac (finding silver!). Anyway, with that said, holy moly this machine cherps a lot, is there anyway to get this thing to simmer down a bit? I have also been getting a lot of false signals (somewhat strong consistent high tone cherps) that I dig in hopes that they are a deep coins....but after digging a foot down....nothin. what the heck is that all about!?! Finally, it is mindboggling to me how you guys reference the numbers (Fe & Co), I feel like mine jump around so much that they are pretty much worthless. Any help/advice, or direction to help/advice is MUCH appreciated. I have been working the detector very slow, but have pretty much just used the factory coin setting in manual. THANKS!

You can try turning the sensitivity down some, and make sure to use the noise cancel button when at a new site. That will select the best channel to operate on.

Congrats on your first silver!

if your target suddenly disappears, flip over to quick-mask (no disc.) and scan your spoils pile, its probably a nail that fooled the etrac in the ground, but once out and much closer to the coil, is easier for the etrac to recognize and gets discriminated out.

thats just 1 possibility. also if youre a foot down and dead centered pinpoint wise, it could be a very massive peice of iron (or something) in the ground. i had a target like that in my yard and was determined to find it, it turned out to be a large, old peice of scrap 25" deep!

I also went from a DFX 300 to the Etrac this season. I know Whites guys might disagree, but once you get a hang of the Etrac they can't be compared. It's an incredible machine. Just take your time and swing low and slow. Start with sensitivity on Auto +3, the numbers seem to stay a little more consistent and reliable.

I see good things in your future.... and the purchase of that Etrac is a great start:bouncy:

I gave up using Auto +3 ... I used to use it all the time. Now I am in manual mode almost all the time....as high as I can take it. Does anyone else do that?

Congrats on your Rosie!!!

I'll do that now. But when I was first learning it I was getting frustrated from all the noise. I'll crank it til it starts falsing too much then dial it back a bit.

Yes, but when the interference gets really bad I like to scale back to Auto+3. Seems to cut out a lot of the chatter.
