My First Trip With the Sand Shark....

New member
I left the Excalibur in the car and tried my new/used Tigershark. It worked great. None of the coins are anything more than typical clad. Then I found the small ring with the stone in it. It's 10K. Then the chain It said Italy T140. Looked that up and it's 10K, I think, and the same chain in 20" was $312 US. However, this chain is 24". Finally the fairly heavy mens wedding band and it's 14K.
Was wading up to belt deep and using the Nutall Diamonhead. Lots of times it was one scoop and other times it took 2-3. I spent 4 wonderful hours digging all this. I spared you seeing all the 'junk" that also came with the good targets.
This was all in fresh water. I wonder if I would have found the chain if I had the excalibur. The Tesoros have a good rep for finding the small stuff like that tiny ring and the chain.
Another forum member came to hunt the same area. We had never met before. He looked at me and said, "You grumpyolman?" Wierd to have that happen. We had a nice long chat and may hook-up sometime down the road for a joint dive. Jim

Jim,
Nice haul. You must have got the wedding band after I left. I'll be back out Wednesday.
Strangely, I didn't find any thing deeper with the Dual Field than I have with the Surf Pro.
I leave for a camping trip the 10th and will be back the 16th and leave again the 18th
with a grandson and his friend for a camping trip. Any time you want to get together, email me.
It was good to meet you and visit, The small ring I found is 14k.

Excellent results! Good for you!

I am two days into a week vacation at the beach. Salt water beach, and sanded in. The Sand Shark is what I am mostly using in the water and the real wet sand on this trip. I don't take it up the beach into the damp and dry because of all the trash. Not finding too much in the way of goodies in the water; so far have found three pairs of eye glasses in the water and a little bit of change. One bottle cap gave me fits, five or six scoops before I got it out, crusty black crud covered and ugly. Hoping to put the coil over a ring or three before the week is out.
Thanks for sharing the Sand Shark finds.
Cheers,
tvr

nice pile of finds -ya can't beat that Nuttall scoop-I love mine its the best design going for my money-worth every cent.

Hi Jim,
I should have taken you up on that invite! But I still do not have a dedicated water detector. The Tiger worked out great and it looks like you had loads of fun! I went down to Discount Divers, great place and great people! Set my daughter Toni up with some good snorkeling gear. The hookah set ups brought back some great memories of gold hunting at 6,500 feet in the late 70s. I will be watching for a Tiger! In September we will try to get over there. Nice haul and hope you healed up well!

Best regards,
Steve

Grumpy, I am new to the water detecting, I also bought a Nuttall. My problem is i pinpoint where the find is and then keep digging and digging some times 6 scoops, it frustrating, any tips on using the Nuttall. I find dry sand not a problem, where I am detecting are lakes with sandy / muddy bottoms and poor vis.?

Wish I could really be helpful, but I experienced the same frustrations as you pinpointing the target. I can tell you the Tiger Shark pinpoints much better than the Excal...for me. I think, initially, I was going after every signal and lots of times it must have been a small piece of ferrous like a rusty nail and it fell out of the scoop as I was lifting the scoop. BTW, I got one of those add on scoop handles and it was really useful and made it easier to look into the scoop. I backed off digging every little signal and just went after those that were a little stronger. I may have missed some good deep stuff doing that but I got more than I had hoped for and had lots more fun. The major frustration is to hear something and dig and dig and never find anything. I don't care if it's a beaver tail or what...I just want to find the metallic object the detector said was there. I guess I am saying, for awhile, go after the easier stronger signals until you start pulling something, not necessarily keepers, all most all the time. Then gradually go after some of the more iffy targets. If you aren't digging nickels, crown tops, or pull tabs you won't be digging gold. Good luck...Jim

I hear you on the digging, I just got the Excal so pretty well dig most everything sound. I recognise bottle caps so that saves me digging those, I have dug one gold ring so far but the time spent digging and pin pointing is a little much. I just have to get better at the pin pointing that's all, quit my whining.:nopity:

Yep, I've seen what the "Tiger Shark" can do on small gold "AND CHAINS" in lakes!!!

Best machine hands down in that environment too!:detecting:

GREAT haul and good luck with the new detector!!!

PS, the post said: Re: My First Trip With the Sand Shark... But I saw you listed the Tiger Shark in the details!

Thanks:thumbup:

That's a great haul Jim.

I think you would of found the chain with the Excalibur if your one of those that dig small blips.(for a lack of a better word)example would be a stud earring sound.Unlike the Tiger that gave you a solid coin sound.
I have both the Excaliber and the tiger and I bought the tiger specifically for finding gold chains without pendants.I have found two gold chains so far with the tiger. Also found some tiny gold pendants that could easily slip through the holes on the diamond head.I put 1/4 in mesh inside the scoop to hold those small hard to find objects.

Yup! I guess in my excitement I called it a Sand Shark and it's really the TS like some have corrected. I did consider the SS for awhile and that's maybe why I typed that in. Please forgive a senior citizen. The memory ain't what it once was. Jim

I'm new to the forum... Guess where I am and what I am going to be using........ still waiting for it. But hope to find another [see attached upload] similar nugget. To answer the question.......... I live in New Mexico, site of the oldest [Mina del Tierra] gold mine going back to the aztecs and conquistadores........ I also hope to hunt the Mighty Rio Grande, you know that Giant Sluice Box in the western desert........... especially the area south of Colorado through Elephant Butte Reservoir....... and the new and old placer areas..........
