I went back to a park I have been hunting for several years. I'd been avoiding the main section of the park as I thought it had been filled at one point (I'm now starting to change my mind).
After hunting the section that I'd been concentrating on for the past several years and not finding much - other than this very old cool looking - whatzit (is it a pencil sharpener?, says E Faber on the side).
Started getting dark and I headed into the main section of the park I'd been avoiding and soon dug this metal button and then I found a fairly deep wheatie.
As dark was setting in I got a VERY deep hit near the wheatie and I started digging....and digging. I couldn't see what I was doing any more due to the lack of light and was using my Sun Ray probe in pinpoint mode to zero in on the hit. I was starting to think it was a very deep piece of larger junk.
Finally popped a large silver disc....was too dark to see what it was, but I knew it was a very old coin! Turns out to be a well worn 1876 S Seated Quarter!
Seated coins have eluded me up to now (though have found a couple of Standing Liberty quarters in the past), so finding a seated quarter and an S-minted one at that was a real treat.
The coin sounded like a very deep cent and did not hit as silver - I suppose that's because of that fact that it's so worn. This quarter has seen a lot of use!
Note some spots of the green corrosion on the back, leading me to believe that it may have been next to an old cent coin which I may have missed.
