My first real hunt with the 3030 and first impressions...

Let me start off by saying that I am a complete newbie to Minelab. The only 2 machines I had used prior were a MTX pro and a Coinmaster. I spent a couple months saving for the CTX and during that time I really had a difficult time choosing between a V3i, E-Trac or the CTX. So many people said that the CTX/E-Trac had a huge learning curve. Once I decided to go for the CTX I came here and downloaded every manual possible. After I read them I browsed every thread trying to get all I could out of them. Last weekend I finally bought it and during this past week any free time I had I used it in the yard learning. All the things I read about really came together.

Finally having a day off today I decided to go to a local area park and hit an early 60's playground that I know has been hammered hard in the past. I personally spent many hours in this area with the MTX and so has my cousin with his DFX. Let me just say that with the CTX it was like virgin ground. No great finds but I managed 5 wheats and a silver with a fair amount of clad. Not to shabby for 3 hours in an old playground that wasn't supposed to have anything left in it from the years of people hunting there. I used a variation of Gonehunting's discrim and would switch to defult heavy trash when I hit bad spots.

Compared to what I've used in the past, the CTX almost feels like cheating. That bullet I found there though kinda concerns me

Congrats on your initial success with the CTX. Regarding bullets, I hunt a turn of the century park and find at least one bullet each hunt. The park was probably an old hunting site before it became a public park.

I too just got my CTX Friday and went hunting Sat evening and last night and after reading all the materials on here and the manual I have come to determine that this machine is a monster! I found pennies that were all chewed up from touching a nail. I can't wait to get some free time to go hunting in some good spots! I did start in my back yard and found a really old bullet. Thanks to everyone here and Bart at BigBoys!! Congrats on your silver!! I can't wait to find some silver! Still elusive but it will come!

Great hunt! Now just imagine what you'll be getting after about 200 hours of getting to know her

You are off to great start......... no looking back now
