My first Minelab Excalibur II 10'' and first post

Hello

I just want to say I'm happy to find this site. As I'm trying to get back in the swing of thing's, I have been MD on and off for several years, but know I'm really trying to learn this hobby to have fun, be outside, and maybe find something worth sharing. I Beach hunt and and have been using a White's Surfmaster II which has proved to be a good machine but not when it's near the salt water. So i have researched for the past month and decided to buy the Excalibur II and have read many posts, I also got the straight shaft, one of Clive's book and the CD. So anyway i cant wait to get out this weekend it is supposed to be cold but that's not going to stop me. If anyone has any suggestion's about the Excalibur II i would really appreciate it.

Thanks Bruce

Try this Bruce, set to Disc, Volume wide open, Threshold barely audible, Sensitivity on about 6 and Discrimination on 1. Sweep SLOWLY, about 1' per second. Listen to make sure the unit stays in a low or mid growl. If it goes into the high pitched strained tone, then the unit is NOT dealing well with the ground, sensitivity is set too high or you may be sweeping too fast. Hunt for the firm sand, if it is squishy move on somewhere else. if you are NOT finding targets of density, move on somewhere else. This should get you headed in the right direction mate, best of luck out there!

You are one of the reason i bought a Excalibur i think i read almost everyone of your post. I feel good about this machine, if i have any issues i hope you don't mind if i pick your brain? Sweep slowly lucky for me I'm in that habit already,I will start with your suggestion's and thanks again.

Hi Gulf Hunter,

I hope you're getting back to normal in Galveston. How is it there? I've been doing some coin shooting around old community centers and county fair areas. Lots of pull tabs, etc. I have been setting my Disc all the way clockwise on my Excal 1000. This actually cuts a lot of trash out, but it also cuts out gold. I can find quarter, dimes, pennies, but not nickels or gold jewelry. Do you know what the scientific reason is . I'm assuming pull tabs and gold must be in the same frequentcy range. Can this be?

Hello Jerry,

Things are shaping up nicely, but the hunting is kinda lame though. I do not do much park or dirt hunting anymore. I know when I DID hunt parks there were 1000s of pulltabs, but with a remote chance of gold being there, any disc used WILL cut the gold/nickels/pulltabs out of the equation. Digging is too much work there for the potential rewards, imo! An 800 would be a better choice for the separation, but good luck out there Jerry!

I have the Excal 1000 and live really close to the beach in Navarre Fl, but I don't want my machine to find any sharks like yours did. HA!

Well I finally got out today for about 2 hrs. I walked close as i could without getting wet since it was about 35 degrees plus the wind blowing. Ended up with a little over $3.00 i didn't count it all but not bad for the first time i used it, and i only went from one jetty to the nexted and back.
