My first intentional Relic find

Hello,

I have been detecting for a little over 3 years now and have pretty much spent most of my time coinshooting at old houses and parks while occasionally hitting the beach during the tourist season.I have rarely hunted in the woods or in a recently plowed field.

I have found a few buttons and a handful of bullets while looking for coins but I had never actually set out to find bullets, buttons or anything else that falls into the relic category. The past 2 Sundays have been different.

Thanks to Tony from Tidewater, I have now been in the woods and in a recently plowed field.Tony was kind enough to take me to some property that he recently recieved permission to hunt.

Two Sundays ago I was ill prepared for the type of hunting we would be doing and quickly found out that my Lesche digging tool and my Periscope probe were not the tools for the job. When I did hit on a target, I couldn't probe for it or dig it. The ground was hard as a rock.It was definitely a learning experience.

This past Sunday was different.I had a real shovel with me and I knew what to expect.I was fortunate enough to find the button that I am including a picture of. Although I had no idea at the time that it was anything other than an old button, I was to learn later from a friend of Tony's that it might be a not so common button.

After a little research, I was confident that I may have finally found something worth posting a picture of.

Thanks again Tony and I look forward to doing a lot more "Relic hunting" with you.
