My First Hunt of 2006....

came on Monday and was not very succesful but just getting out for a while relieved a lot of the tension built up from being housebound for almost 2 months.

The snow where I live had melted with all the warm rainy weather we've been having so I went to the field where I got the 1852 3 cent piece a while back. Unfortunatley it had not melted there. What a difference 20 miles can make. The actual house stood somewhere under that 2' snowbank.

I was able to do the front edge though. Lots of footprints and a few holes after going back, forth and sideways for an hour.

Didn't get a lot. A few pieces of pewter spoons, umbrella hub, thimble, some kind of clasp, a 1 piece and a two piece button. Don't know what the hardware piece is  This is the only spot I've ever found them and I've found about a dozen in various sizes.

Sorry about the dark outdoor shots. It was raining pretty hard.

Thanks for looking and GH, Chris

They're made of brass and about 1 1/2" long but vary in thickness. Some have the half circle piece attached with a brass pin. I think they were attached to something made of sheet iron judging by the rust buildup on some.

Thanks Ed!

.... hardware thingy of some sort. Perhaps from Elson's chastity belt? .... Which would explain its age and the fact its broken.
Ed

.... I'm guessing from the photo its some type of latch or release. does that make sense?
