It has been a while since my last post. I have relocated to the Philippines most of the time now. Left my battery pack in the States and ordered one from Minelab which finally got here.
I went to a small town call Argao. It has the oldest Spanish Municipal building still standing. I saw a date of 1608 on the building. I did not get a picture of this building yet, I did not detect near this building. There is a an old church nearby which I did detect and have a few pictures.
The coins are definitely different here. The 1 Peso coin is almost undetectable, like the steel penny. The 25 Centavos sounds like a dime so I found a lot of them.
I went in front of the church first and did not find much. One of the locals said try beside the church; they did not think the soil there has been moved or tampered with. I started getting signals and started digging up Pesos and Centavos (Cents). Nothing really old though. The oldest are a 1962 One Centavos and a 1964 Ten Centavos coin. Was hoping to find Spanish silver or gold. While detecting another local came up and did say there was another "White Guy" metal detecting years ago there; so I guess I am not the first one here to do this.
Also Philippines was part of USA from 1989 to 1946 and they minted coins in the USA for the Philippines which one side shows USA and the other Philippines. There are silver Pesos coined in the early 1900's so I hope to find one of these as well one day.
My total take for the few hours was:
5 Peso coins: 2
1 Peso coins: 6
50 Centavos: 2
25 Centavos: 19
10 Centavos: 2
5 Centavos: 2
1 Centavos 1
1 unknown at this time.
Total coins: 34
Sorry the pictures did not come out well for the coins; I will buy a new camera in January and hope to take better pics.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!
Rick
