New member
I had my gt for three weeks now i have been detecting only dry and wet sand so far i have coin total of $32.58 and two silver rings with somekind if ice on it and one electro plated white gold with stones on my todays hunt as i was returning home a young kid about 15 16 years old aproached me he said he had lost his gold cross charm i had agreed to help him after two minutes of searching i had a nice soft but weak signal, after locating the charm i noticed that it was only about three inches under the dry sand my question is. i can pull a dime or a penny at 10 to 12 inches on a wet sand, how come the gold was very weak it was like a faint signal what am i doing wrong? oh at the and of finding the gold charm the boys big brother handed me $5.00 bucks a good day. I'm getting a new camera i will post pictures from now on soon.

Assos, I once had the same thing happen to me, only it was a small, gold, baby ring that I found under a swing set. It was a good signal but at the same time very soft. I'm curious as to what replies your post might bring.

Well assos, I'm not a SOV guy, but use the Excal. I run Discrimination on 1 and it NEVER leaves that position. If you are running any discrimination, you could very well be discriminating gold out of the equation. Gold will many times come in softly, as it sinks to deeper depths, than most any other metal, except for maybe lead sinkers. Now, in this case, I do not readily have an explanation for you, other than the piece could have been slightly angled, causing a weak signal, as well. Sometimes totally ignored, as there is not enough surface area to read, savvy? If you have not read cjc's, "Finding Gold, Silver and Coins with the Minelab Sovereign and Excaliber metal detectors", I would highly recommend it. Send cjc a PM and he'll get a copy out to you. GH
