My first find

Today in Michigan the weather was good enough for me to use my V3 for the first time. About 2 years ago I was involved in a motorcycle accident when a car coming from the other way turned left in front of me. Anyway, bending down and digging up my find was quite a chore. I got my V3 around Christmas from Kellyco, and I must say I love them.. Anyway, I found a quarter, which was located in my yard. I know that this probably doesn't sound like much to those reading this, and it probably doesn't warrant being on the V3 forum, but for me it was a beautiful thing. I got many beeps and was easily able to determine if I should dig or not. I have read the owners manual several times and read this forum at least once a week. But that quarter, using the coin and jewelry program showed up at 5 inches just as big and beautiful on my screen and left no doubt that it was indeed a quarter. For me digging once instead of 20 times is definately a blessing. I have 2 older metal detectors, both are about 40 years old. If I would have used them I would have easily dug 20 times, I only dug once. So, the moral of the story is, if you are older and have a few extra bucks, buy a V3, and if you are younger the V3 is worth the wait. God bless you all, and happy hunting.

Hey Jim, fellow michigander here(northern lower part). Yes this weather is awesome. Makes you want to get out and detect. Ive owned my v3 since feb. and love it. I owned a dfx before that. Once you get use to it you will love what it can do. I believe the v is going to prove to be a heck of a detector for us all. good luck and happy hunting

Us old Dudes can only dig so many holes in a days time.
I have had a knee replaced and if its a deep target, I have to lay down on the ground to dig the target.
The wire less head phones help me by not being tied to the unit by a cable when I get up....

All the information that the V-3 gives you, helps you to make up your mind if you want to dig it or not..

It can only get better for you.

Jim:

congratulations on your day and your quarter. Please send that story to Whites, and send a pic of you and your quarter. I have never heard better justification for the existance of a detector that helps discriminate than what you just said. If they choose your story for their site u get a nice gift certificate. Maybe someone could put a link for where to submit it?

Again, thank you for sharing!!

I just wanted to let you know that I got the wireless headphones with mine, and I am bald. So I think Whites should make some clear headphones so I won't get a funny tan on my noggin. Wireless ear buds would be nice. I hope that I am not the only one facing that problem this summer.

I sent my story in to Whites, thanks Taterhead for the idea. I didn't send a picture cuz I wouldn't want to scare the younger people, or give them nightmares about aging. I am just 59, and I am joking, well, kinda. (LOL)

Ha Ha!! I've got exactly the same problem except completely different. Now that I'm 50, my gray hair is coarser. I take my headphones off and my hair is messed up. Hopefully...if another version comes out, it will have auto comb.

Read on these forums that someone liked a certain brand of buds. Can't remember what brand but until then I'll pack a comb and you should probably look into a self tanning cream.

Was down in Oregon this last few days. Decided to detect some parking strips around the dorms at U of O. It WAS nice to blow by all the beer caps and zincs. (My course gray hair also acted as looky loo defense shield and I was able to detect without being bothered once!) One of the perks of plus 50 guess?

My V3 behaved very well (in some fairly heavy EMI) and learned a couple more things. Good hunt and had a great time in Eugene!

Taterhead, just to let you know White's is using my story and they are sending me a gift certificate, thanks again

Got my gift certificate and already sent it in. Today I put my 5.3 coil on and found a dime and a penny with only 2 digs. I use all 3 screens and there is no doubt that I am digging a coin. Of course I have not searched in a really trashy area yet, but there is some trash here at my house and with the V3 it is easy, very easy to distinguish between trash and a coin. I am not saying that I was 100 percent sure if it was trash or not, but I was 100 percent sure if it was a coin. I know that I will probably miss a lot of treasure when I go out in the real world, but when you can only dig once or twice an hour and you want to make it worth your effort then nothing can compare to my V3.
