I've been hunting with my Fisher F5 for a couple months now and found I don't know how much clad with it. Last week, I dug this beauty. A 1850 half dime. I have also been digging some Civil War relics with it. So far I'm loving this machine. When I dug the half dime I had the Gain set on 85 and the threshold set on -3. I dug it about 3 to 4 inches down. I'm hitting this site hard and will post if I find anything else. I'm still learning the F5 and so far I'm 100% pleased with it!!

I will see if I can get a pic of the obverse tomorrow. I live in VA about 30 min. outside of Fredericksburg. The field I'm in now is weird. My friend keeps getting hits on rocks with her 1270. I don't know if they are hot rocks or what. Anyway my F5 when I turned it up to 0 or +1 it seemed to "chatter". I cut the threshold back to -3 and it quieted down. We are near power lines also. I'm still learning this machine. Should I try turning my threshold up?

No, keep it where you have your background noise barely audible or not at all. The lower the Threshold setting, the more it will reduce the weaker signals. Of course, increasing the Threshold will make the weaker signals more audible, but, also increase background noise and interference. Wow, you are right in the middle of some great history hunting. The closest Civil War battles to here were in LA, although, there were a few POW camps and forts in this area. Those are all off limits now.
Don't take a lot of what I say as gospel, I am still a very wet newbie at this, but, learning fast! I spend most of my time in All Metal motion, Threshold at +3, Sens 85+, manual GB set slightly positive. I've tried a number of other settings and this has been working best for me......I'm still experimenting!
Thanks Roland I will give that a try. I do live in a good spot but believe me, finding the Civil War relics is work. They are becoming few and far in between but they're still out there! I'm doing my best to find them..You know whats strange, When I'm looking for Civil War relics I find coins and Vice versa. When I found this 1850 half dime I was relic hunting and coins never crossed my mind to be found in that field! You never know.
