My First E-trac hunt

I finally saw the light, and picked up an E-trac. After reading Andy's book, watching Youtube videos and reading through posts here, I finally took her out yesterday for her maiden voyage, and I have to say that I'm disappointed. Disappointed that I didn't buy one years ago that is! I dug ~ 90 coins, including 13 wheaties and six silver dimes. Two of the dimes were right next to iron, the ET nulled but I could get a bit of high tone blipping into a 46-47. When I dug them I found the iron first, and that's what I thought I had, but re-scanning the hole revealed there was more.

In one area with moist ground I did struggle with some iron that sounded pretty good, like a coin but iron was all that was there (probably a sign of too high of sensitivity?). I guess no machine is immune to digging iron falses. I still have a ton to learn about this machine, but so far I am very impressed.

I made a quick video of my first hunt and the finds:

Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting,

FANTASTIC:clap:

Thank you for doing a video on your very first ETrac hunt:super:

You will realize that very few of us have ever gotten 6 silvers in a hunt and I am certainly not one of them:cry:

All the best and looking forward to your future posts

Believe me I can count on one hand the number of times I've had 6 silver or better days, and I don't expect that to be a common occurrence (not that I would mind), but I do believe my silver finds are going to increase from my previous machines

Thanks for looking, and Happy Hunting,
Brian

Tried to send you a PM but your mailbox was full. That was an awesome start. I had not heard from you since you bought it so I was wondering if you were happy with it. Seems like you are........;o)

Very nice hunt, great job using the E-Trac for the first time, can't wait to see all the other neat finds you will make with it!

Hi Bill,

Sorry bout that, I just cleaned out my mailbox. Yep so far it seems to be doing well, and I have tons to learn on it, but one step at a time. Yesterday I took it to a well pounded park for a couple of hours and got a silver rosie, a merc, and three wheaties. I think I also figured out how to avoid digging iron falses, now to master hearing those ultra deepies

I have to admit, I'm going to have to start working out my right arm, it's a lot heaver then my F75 :)

Thanks for the smooth sale Bill!

Brian

Uh-oh Brian. Welcome to the dark side. We've both put a lot of hours on our F75s and have found a lot of nice stuff with them. But when it comes to silver, it's way different with the E-Trac. Talk about weight though, I sold my Pro Coil and have used the 10x12 SEF exclusively since that time. It's even HEAVIER, but the thing is, it forces you to slow down, which makes it more likely that you are going to hear the fringe deep targets. You also won't dig little bent up pieces of pull tabs with the E-Trac like you did with F75, which makes them sound like high tones. Plus, I think the E-Trac is just more fun to use with all the bells and whistles. - Jim

Hey Jim,

Yeah no more digging deep tabs that sound like coins :clapping: No idea why the F75 does that  Also I'm noticing no more crown caps

Sunday I tested out the E-trac at a spot that has produced well for me in the past. Over the past couple of years, I've used a F75 LTD, Tek Omega, and CZ-70 at this spot, and have found a couple of dozen barber dimes, SLQ, half dozen mercs, dozen injuns and 3+ dozen teen wheaties. Silver dried up on me, I haven't found silver there since last summer, yet I've still managed to eek out a teens wheatie or injun each time back.

I was planning to run the ProCoil, Sunray X-12 and the 6" Excellerator coil over the same spot and see how each coil does, but ended up only testing the ProCoil & 6" Excellerator coil. Well today I broke that silver dry spell. Using the ProCoil and crawling along at a snails pace, I found a 7" deep merc (not a text book signal, had to play with it, and the #'s were a bit off, seems like it was ~ 14-42), which in itself isn't anything special (I was really hoping it was another Barber when I saw that silver reeded edge in the dirt), but it was special to me to finally see one more silver surface from this well hunted little spot. To top it off, my last target was something like a 12-39, but deep, so I knew it wouldn't be a zincoln. When I saw it in the hole, it was the same diameter as a nickel, but when I picked it up it felt different then a nickle, lighter I guess. It was dark by then, so I stuck it in my pocket and thought to myself on my way home that I would be thrilled if it were a token....imagine my surprise when I got home and looked at it, and sure enough it was a token! It's a bakery token, "Good for 1 load of bread", I need to research the name of the bakery to see if I can figure out where it's from. I think I'll spend another hour there tomorrow to see if I can conjur up another silver, hopefully a barber this time. I had a lot of iffy signals (like 20-45), I guess their a no-go with the ProCoil, but I don't know about the Excellerator coil  This ground was bone dry, I can't wait to try it after a good rain.

So much to learn on this machine.

Wow ... you sure are off to a fantastic start with you new machine !
We're looking forward to seeing photo's of your future finds !
